MARSH JOINS SCUNTHORPE ON LOAN Club News Barnsley Football Club can confirm that Aiden Marsh has joined Scunthorpe United on loan. Continue reading on the official site...
Good move for the lad to help him progress as he's clearly short of League One level, but seems strange when we are lacking up front as it is at the minute.
Bit surprised at that one as he was getting a bit of game time with us but hopefully he can get a lot more at Scunny
Surprised at this as it puts a lot of pressure on him. If he can't score regularly at that level his chances of making it at Barnsley lessen.
I'd like to think that marsh and Iseka going out, has freed up space for a free signing or incoming loan deal.
Scunthorpe have dropped a king way. They’re currently bottom of the National League. It’ll not be easy for Aiden there. My view is that he’ll do well I’m the league, though I reckoned he would be better suited perhaps to L2 to aid his development. Let’s hope we get no injuries!
It's clear Marshy needs game time. He's not quite up to this level yet in my opinion, but there's certainly a player in there. I'm not sure the bottom club in the National League is the place where he's going to get quality experience, but I guess we don't know how bad things are at Scunny (whether it's a false early season position). He's not had much game time this season, and seems to be dropping further down the pecking order, especially since Tedic came into the side. A loan to the National League makes perfect sense.
Tough move for him - sounds like they're awful. But he's not played much recently and this should give him more game time. If he scores a few it'll be great for him. I don't think this means we'll be getting a new striker in - we've got four already
Can't agree with this. Jacob Brown went out on loan to a poor Chesterfield side (League 2) and barely got a sniff. Fans said he was crap and all the usual. Came back to us for pre-season and Stendel liked the look of him. Over the course of that season he became an important member of the team, incidentally starting with his cameo at Scunthorpe at RWB. Going out and playing proper competitive games (with pressure) is the best way for a young player to develop, not just physically and technically, but also mentally and coping with expectation. That's the key to developing the consistency to play at a higher level in my opinion.
How many players have we loaned out to non league clubs that have come back and had a good career with us? Genuinely cannot think of even one person. There is always a first time. We want him to do amazing especially as a local lad. But isn't it telling he has gone to the worst team in tier 5 and not someone better? It's crucial he bangs in plenty of goals in the next few months.
With the loan window now closed, I’m really struggling with how this is a good idea. PS. Do we get our kit sponsorship money back?
I think it's crucial that he gets game time more than anything. Matty Wolfe went to Notts County and didn't pull up any trees but looks a more rounded player for it. Palmer was the same after spending time at Darlington. My personal opinion is that strikers need to play lots of games to develop. They can have all the talent in the world (as seen with our PL loans in the past) but still not have a knack of being in the right place to score a goal, contributing to the team (other than goals), holding the ball up, steering clear of injuries etc. Vardy, Le Fondre, Austin and Lambert are a few that stand out as being better for learning their trade by playing competitive games in the lower leagues. For that reason I'm not worried about a 19-year old lad backing himself by going into the national league and learning things that will eventually add to his game.
