I’m in the try and win every game camp. Wins breed confidence. Winning is a good habit to get. Competition is now absolutely pointless though
All this competition has become now is a development tournament for PL teams. It’s a shame we can’t opt out of it
I say this every time this crops up so here goes one more time. The u21 teams should never be in and no one despises PL greed and arrogance than me but all the league teams are still taking part. The competition hasn't been weakened. Our trophy cabinet has TWO cups in it yet you'd think we were Real Madrid with our casual disregard for a trophy we can actually win. Pointless this season anyway now as we couldn't be arsed against Lincoln.
Pre PL 21s I’d agree. I just don’t anymore. If we got to quarters I might start showing interest. Definitely not a tournament I’d have my first xi anywhere near though. If the powers that be don’t respect it enough to be a football league tournament, I don’t see why the football league teams should
All I know is that winning it at Wembley was a fantastic day. I wish my Dad had been there to see it. I'll never see us win another cup in my lifetime unless it's this one and probably neither will anyone else posting on here. Not to compete is just cutting off our nose to spite our face. Christ we don't even take the League Cup seriously most seasons. What on earth is the point of following a club that doesn't want to win stuff?
Winning at Wembley was fantastic, made better by both sets of fans. Dont think there will be that many at a Newcastle u21 v West Ham u21 final though. Its a disgrace what they've done. Pandering to the elite yet again.
not saying don't compete. I'm saying don't compete with our first xi. fa seem to see it as a development tournament, so I think we should treat it as one. way bigger fish to fry. I'd be furious If we lost any of our first xi to injury, in a game against Newcastle U21s
Nothing will ever take away our Trophy win, from when this was a proper knockout competition then. But for me they have ruined it since then, and I don't mind us faffing about with squad players and not taking it seriously. And when did we last really make the effort with a good run in the Lg cup ?.
Must admit I don’t care. Good opportunity to get minutes into certain players though. This would be my 11 but bare in mind they wouldn’t all be playing 90 minutes: Searle McCarthy Moon Sraha Edwards Cadden Benson Phillips Ackroyd Tedic Martin subs: Give some young uns half an hour for Edwards, Cadden and Benson (Pickard, Jalo etc)
I think it's you have to have five start who either played in your last league game, will play in your next league game or played like 40 games.
Rather put a second string out tbh, I know winning breeds confidence but how would that go if we put out a relatively strong side and got thumped by the Toon kids
I don't get the winning breeds confidence argument when most won't be playing the next game regardless of the result.
