I've got a black and white Mexican Fender Telecaster. I also have a bass. Just a hobby but played since my mid teens.

Fave guitarists; a tough one, but ones that I like for a variety of reasons: Hendrix (obviously), Johnny Greenwood, Tom DeLonge, Pete Doherty, Craig Nicholls, Johnny Marr, Mick Ronson, Kurt Cobain, Lee Ranaldo, Graham Coxon, Bob Marley, Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, Bernard Butler, Richard Hawley, Carl Barat, Ryan Jarman, Chris Urbanowicz, Molly Rankin, Bert Jansch, Pat Smear, Lockett Pundt, Richard Ashcroft, Cate Le Bon, David Gilmour, Paul Simon, Robert Fripp, Noel Gallagher, John Squire, Bernard Sumner, Johnny Ramone, Mick Jones, George Harrison, Prince, Bradford Cox, John Lennon, James Dean Bradfield, Thurston Moore, Badly Drawn Boy, Jack White, Joey Santiago, Peter Perrett, Bill Ryder Jones, Gemma Hayes, Patrick Walden, Conor Oberst, Leadbelly, Neil Young and many more..

I played a Fender Strat and a Yamaha acoustic for many years, although I use the word "played" quite loosely. I was always a better rhythm guitarist than a lead. Eventually sold my electric guitar and amp, so now I'm strictly Old Goat Unplugged.

Heroes of my youth: Bill Nelson, Mick Ronson, Brian May, Jimmy Page, Joe Walsh, Steve Howe, Steve Hillage, Steve Hackett, Alex Lifeson, Neil Young, Angus Young, David Gilmour, Zal Cleminson.

 

Mexican-built Fender Strat here. I love the fact it holds it's tune far better than the American-built ones. I previously had a US Telecaster De luxe (fell out of tune if you looked at it) and a Gibson SG Custom (meaty enough tones but not all that flexible in terms of sounds). The Strat is by far my favourite for it's playability and range of tones.

I've admired many guitarists (especially Hendrix, Gilmour, Page, May, Howe) but the absolute doyen in my view is Jeff Beck. Talented, modest and able to play with anyone. To me, he took Hendrix's learnings and became the greatest. I fear my picks rather belie my age though!

 

I've got a PRS SE Standard 24. I'm not a great fan of show-offy 'technical' guitar playing, more the type of playing that speaks to the soul and is perfect for the song.
Names that come to mind are John Mcgeogh (Siouxsie, Magazine, Visage, PIL), Bernard Sumner (Joy Division in particular), James Honeyman-Scott (Pretenders), Will Sergeant (Echo & the Bunnymen), Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine) and some others mentioned already above.

Used to have a road worn strat and a tele but sold them now, now just got my Fender acoustic that I bought myself for my 21st (20 years ago).

Fave guitarists are Jimi Hendrix, John Frusciante and Mike Einziger.

 

I’ve got a Peavey V Type and a Chapman Superstrat, a Fender 12 string, a LAG acoustic and a Dean bass.
I’ve gone through quite a lot over the years but have always tended to stick to second hand bargains until recently.

 

Had that many it'd be impossible to remember them all. Downsized in recent years and currently playing a Mexican Fender Strat (best guitar I've ever played), and a Les Paul goldtop. Still got my first ever guitar my dad bought me out of Argos nearly 20 years ago, too.

Also play a lot of a Yamaha acoustic. Always wanted a Martin but never been able to afford one.

Favourite guitar player would be John Mayer. Honorable mentions include Joe Bonamassa, Pete Townshend. Also quite like Wes Borland for something a bit different.

 

Got a couple of Musicman Luke II's that I use live, just left a band to start a duo (with a Blades fan). I own a couple of Les Pauls, a PRS McCarty, Mexican Strat and Tele a Yamaha APX6 and APX10. Too many guitars according to my wife, but i always need just one more.

Amp wise, I use a Headrush pedal board direct to the PA

Vito Bratta, Dave Gilmore and any of the three Skynyrd guitarists get my feet tapping

 

Not a guitarist but love the music scene, had over 100 bands play in the Bridge Inn, i used to enjoy thursday neights, Jam night, people used to turn up with all sorts of home made instruments, Gilly from Rotherham was my favourite Guitarist, R,I,P, Gilly.

 

I play mostly Celtic stuff in DADGAD tuning these days. Just lately have been accompanying a friend who plays tenor banjo, busking in the town centre, as his usual accompaniest has been ill. They've raised over £9k for a young guy who lives in Staincross and has cerebral palsy, so he can hopefully go to America for specialist treatment. Restored my faith in Barnsley folk.

Can't believe that no one has given a mention to Richie Blackmore, 2nd only to Jimi Hendrix in my humble opinion.

 

I've got a Heretage Les Paul Goldtop. When I used to play in bands in the 90's I had two Rickenbacker 335s.

I rarely play now, but it's nice to have it around.

Too many diverse guitar players to mention, a lot have been listed above. I saw RL Burnstide once in the 90's & his playing is impossible to replicate, however simple some of it looks, often only using a couple of simple chords.

 

Hank Marvin. Learned most of my scale stuff from Shadows music. My favourite guitar is Gretsch Falcon

 

Good shout. His work with Steely Dan is exceptional.

 

You beat me to it. Then there's the guy from Black Sabbath Tony Iomi.

 

I always wanted to learn to play guitar. Never got around to it. Although being completely tone deaf and all fingers and thumbs is probably not the best start...
