Think Warne would need to take heed. Unless a massive pay rise too difficult to refuse and set him up for life. Rotherham have stood by him. When relegated and his stock is building all the time. Derby will push the panic button if he doesn't hit the ground running.
Really hope Derby sink like a stone. Warne would be mad to leave Rotherham in terms of his career. To keep them safely up would surely give him the opportunity to move to a club that has resources, which sadly Rotherham don't have. Money Talks, Money Talks... Big Val is a precursor. He's probably not regretting taking the West Brom job. Payoff will have sorted him for life pretty much. Then a move to Besiktas. More coin. No loyalty in football these days. You could say that about owners, managers, players & indeed fans. Let's back Duff, even if things take a turn for the worst at some points is the only lesson I can make out of this. Yes, if he does well he'll go as well. I'm under no illusions about that.
Aye, unfortunately its fairly evident though they can just buy their way out of the league, like many other clubs do. Despite nearly going out of business, but getting a stay of execution countless times from the authorities, they continue to spend outside their means. They're just too big to fail apparently, unlike Bury, Macclesfield, Scarborough years ago. Meaning they'll just pay off managers left, right and centre until it finally works. And as someone suggested, it could change Warnes life with incredible sums of money. So managers and coaches like Warne will take the risk, like most of us would. Poisoned chalice, as you say mate.
He's been at Rotherham for nearly six years and performed above expectations at a club that will always have one of the lowest budgets at Championship level. If he took them any further than he has already he'd be performing miracles. Derby on the other hand have a squad that should be top 2 in this league and they're massive club for League One level. If he took them up, they'd more likely be favourites for promotion, not relegation. I appreciate he'd harm his status at Rotherham, and the timing isn't ideal, but it's a good opportunity for him, and no doubt a much better pay packet.
Linked with Huddersfield too Stay put fella if you dont need the cash Your doing a great job Grass isnt always greener
Their results so far this season are way above the underlying stats, suggesting their current achievement and placing might be statistical variance. 4 of their goals have been scored by a 37 year old defender. I'm not saying he should take the Derby job unless the money is significant, but at the same time I expect them to ultimately be in the relegation mix and likely to go down, at which point these job offers might not come up again...
He does mention that in an article, speaks about Smith going Wednesday too. Says how fortunate they've been at times. I don't think he's under any illusions about how they're performing or the potential for relegation again. It's just personal for me, as I like Warne, and don't like Derby! Given the resources of Rotherham, he's done and is doing a brilliant job
Weren’t Derby in administration, and renowned for not paying staff on time? And now the new owners have restrictions on transfer fees, wages, etc… Doesn’t sound like an amazing prospect to me…
There's always loopholes too. I can only pay you 8 grand a week, but then ill buy a car & gift it to you. etc,etc.....
