Despite only 2 league defeats all season, Charlton are now without a victory in their last 5 games, and have slipped to 14th in the league. Away from home, they haven't tasted victory since April, and go 6 league games without a win. They do appear to be draw specialists, sharing the points in 5 of their 9 league games so far. In contrast, we're now unbeaten in 4 in the league, and have tasted defeat just once in 6 in all competitions (in a game where we made 11 changes). That being said, we didn't win either of our last 2 home games, and sit 13th in the home form table. In the overall form table, we are 11 places higher than Charlton, after our recent push under Michael Duff. The head to head at Oakwell is quite mixed. We're unbeaten in the last 3 (2 draws and a win) since a 6-0 drubbing in 2013. That was Charlton's only Oakwell victory in the last 8 meetings, stretching back to 95. Half of those games have ended in a draw however. We will be without Luca Connell once more, who will be a great miss, but Nicky Cadden, and Ziyad Larkeche picked up minutes in the week, and may be pressing for a start. You'd imagine that inexperienced keeper Jamie Searle will be between the sticks, with both Collins and Walton sidelined, unless we sign a new keeper before then. Searle hasn't really been tested yet in his two appearances, which might be something to keep an eye on. All signs seem to point towards a tight game, and probably a draw. But I'm going for a home win, 1-0 with Benson on the score sheet.
Duff confirmed in his presser that Walton is fit and he see’s him and Collins as No.1’s so expect Jack to start I’d say. Walton. Williams. Andersen. Cundy. Edwards. Kane. Benson. Cadden. Aitchinson. Thomas. Cole.
Almost unbelievably I see we have been given another total rookie ref. After the diabolical performance of Thomas Parsons at home to Port Vale - first League 1 game, only done 4-5 League 2 games - we have been allocated Adam Herczeg whose first League 1 game this will also be, again after less than half a dozen League 2 games. What is going on, are the EFL short of refs (there are no Championship games either)? I really hope the club have made some 'observations' about this allocation of rookie refs, particularly if it results in another out-of-his-depth, out of position, pernickety jobs worth display! 2-0 if we're allowed to play. 1-1 if the ref becomes the focal point again.
I seem to recall Paul Warne making a similar point last season. He'd noticed that Rotherham kept being given rookie officials who were constantly making naive errors.
And Ispwich complained when they had a championship standard ref Not all rookie refs are bad and some experienced refs are terrible so its not certain this guy will be poor - surely he cant be as bad as the Port Vale clown To the score it all points to a 1-1 draw but as we know how good we are at ending winless streaks and having had a great away victory so we will all be expecting us to win its got a Charlton win written all over it. Also I am taking my nephew who has a mixed record watching us so Im going with 0-2 and hope I am completely wrong.
yep, I'm going for 2-1 too. Ahead through Cole and Thomas; they make it a nervy last 20. 11,123 Lotto: 2,4,7,10,15,30. Bonus ball 33
Just do not lose lads, but really I believe they can win. They are starting to come together which is encouraging.
Optimistic 2-1 win. Will be interesting to see how subs play out again, after wrecking the 2nd half with em against Port Vale
Play 5 a side with a Charlton fan and we were discussing the game before k/o tonight. I told him I reckon 1-1. He said they always seem to turn up for the big clubs; i thought blimey, we're not The Massives!
2-0 Reds. Weirdly, at 3pm this Saturday, I will be watching football at The Valley. Hopefully it should be good for updates.
But in this league we are one of the bigger clubs Maybe not in the same category as the MASSIVES themselves or Derby and Ipswich I would put us in the same category as Charlton, Plymouth and Pompey Compared to the likes of Forest Green, Cambridge, Exeter Fleetwood etc we are a big club
