Not in size or playing style, although there are similarities. But in the celebrations following Benson’s goal I noticed that Kane was very concerned about the old Barnet, just like Stumpy used to be when he got mobbed after a goal, making sure the hairs that are there covered the areas where it wasn’t. Stumpy’s teammates used to wind him up by messing up his hair, as you see in this clip. Kane will no doubt be hoping his teammates don’t follow suit…
Darren Sheridan was obviously a 1950's footballer who'd fallen into a time machine and accidentally found himself in the 1990's. This theory is clearly backed up by the fact that he appeared out of nowhere in his mid 20's. The "Winsford United" tale was just a flimsy attempt at a cover-up.
Does anyone remember that comic strip about the athlete who always wore black and came back every 30 years or so to win races? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilson_the_Wonder_Athlete
Losing your Barnet at any age can be a big blow to self-esteem, but having the hairline of a pensioner in your early 20s is particularly brutal. I imagine Herbie is a tad sensitive about it.
Same. Also, this is an incredible goal. Both in the team build up beforehand, and Stumpy's finish, which is both deliberate and sublime.
