Mmmmmm...pie!! Meat 'n Potato pie. Whilst I prefer pie and peas with a hot pork pie my wife cannot stand them hot and always in sist on meat and potato.
However, whilst I used to make 'em with chunks of braising or stweing steak (often shin beef) which is cooked for hours to tenderise it I find it gets a bit fibrous and dry. I started to use minced beef steak (browned first with finely chopped onion before cooking with the spuds and beef stock). As long as there is a good proportion of meat to potatoes in the pie I found I prefer mince over chunks of meat.
What do you think... Stewing steak or mince??

I like both if I'm out, but if I've got mince at home I'd tend towards a cottage pie.

I love the meat and potatoe pie from the Denby Dale range. My favourite pie. Used to buy it regularly from Asda, but it disappeared from the shelves. It was a bit pricier than the rest, but worth every penny.

This thread has made me really hungry. I could murder a pie now.

Yep, same here, always same at Asda when I find summat I like they stop stocking it.

Hampsons garden centre at Wakey, their meat n taty pie is next best option.

My mum used to make a great Meat and Potato pie. I’ve got her recipe but it’s never quite the same.

Thanks for that. Just booked at Oxspring next Tuesday lunchtime. Previously when weve driven past always looks like car park etc is extremel;y busy. Is that generally a problem?

The Nottingham House aka Notty House in Broomhill, Sheffield does fantastic pies. Always went there with my daughter when she was at Sheffield Uni and I stopped off on the way up to the match.
