I'm not Welsh but this song always sends shivers down my spine.
"Despite everyone and everything, we're still here today."
The Welsh national anthem has the same effect. Meanwhile we're stuck with the dour "God save the King" or even worse "Sweet Caroline". I'm interested to know what songs can send shivers down other people's spine.

What makes it worse is when we roll out some operatic singer - which makes it even more difficult to join in as he(usually she) insists on putting in high notes where there shouldn’t be any, just to show iff the repertoire/ range.
I’ve been in a crowd of less than 500 people where one third of them sing the Welsh National Anthem and it is truly magnificent.
Can’t say I’m overly familiar with this song though.

I love God Save the <insert monarch here> but not as a sporting anthem.

Quite partial to Jerusalem for England sporting events. Works at cricket.

Have to say in terms of rousing anthems I find most better than God Save the King.
Special mention for Scotland, Welsh & Ireland but even the French, German and Italian ones too.

Quite a fan of the scottish national anthem.. this version is quite powerful..

Also, randomly, big fan of the canadian national anthem..

Actually know it word for word from watching NHL Ice Hockey quite a few years ago.

Definitely La Marseillaise or Flower of Scotland for me!
Got to say, I've always thought the Scottish Red Lion on a yellow background is a belter too

Monacos anthem is very jolly, much better than our boring dirge.

Flower of Scotland is not actually an official national anthem...it was only written as a song by the folk band the Corries in the late 1960's....prior to that it was Scotland the Brave that was used. ( If I remember rightly)

YMA O HYD - WE'RE STILL HERE - written in 1983 by Dafydd Iwan. What the Welsh are celebrating is that despite all the odds (i.e. English oppression !!) the Nation of Wales - the Language and Culture survive and flourish.
(Original version had a line which translated as '.....still here despite old Maggie and her crew' (ref to Thatchers mine closures in Wales.)

A number of versions on You Tube - 'Yma o Hyd - Dafydd Iwan'

Official Welsh anthem is 'Mae Hen Wlad fy Nhadau,' - Land of my Fathers - again a very patriotic song but 'Yma o Hyd' is rapidly taking over.

You'll hear Yma o Hyd on November 29 being belted out in Qatar - Rob Page we love you!

    Still Here
    You don't remember Macsen,1
    nobody knows him.
One thousand and six hundred years,
a time too long to remember.
    When Magnus Maximus2 left Wales,
    in the year 383,
    leaving us a whole nation,
and today - look at us!

    We are still here,
    we are still here,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything.
    We are still here,
    we are still here,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything.
    We are still here.

Let the wind blow from the East,3
let the storm roar from the sea,
let the lightning split the heavens,
    and the thunder shout "encore!"
Let the tears of the faint-hearted flow,
and the servile lick the floor.
    Despite the blackness around us,
we are ready for the breaking of the dawn!

    We are still here,
    we are still here,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything.
    We are still here,
    we are still here,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything.
    We are still here.

We remember that Macsen the Emperor
left our country in one whole piece.
And we shall shout before the nations,
"We'll be here until Judgement Day!"
    Despite every Dic Siôn Dafydd,4
despite old Maggie5 and her crew,
we'll be here until the end of time,
and the Welsh language will be alive!

    We are still here,
    we are still here,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything.
    We are still here,
    we are still here,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything.
    We are still here,
    we are still here,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything.
    We are still here,
    we are still here,
in spite of everyone and everything,
in spite of everyone and everything...

Hibs fans belting out, Sunshine on Leith, after winning cup at Hampden a few years back was goosebumps material.

Hate national anthems at sporting events...jingoistic b0llocks.
