Yeah I was there when we led Ipswich 3-0 after 80 odd minutes, in season '95 I think. But then we tried to wind them up by playing keep ball, and we were actually hanging on for a draw in the end. And we did it against an awful Stockport team as well under Paul Hart, on boxing day I think. 3-0 ahead and coasting, and letting them come back for a draw.
Thank you for sharing that. I bet you have some great memories of those times, and it must have felt quite rewarding making it there and back in one piece!
I used to go away on a regular basis in the sixties & seventies which of course up until the Alan Clarke revolution it was all third & fourth division football & when we were travelling long distances in the 4th division there would often be only one or two coaches so you got to see the regular faces , when we were playing locally of course it was different , we used to have some great followings to Donny, Rotherham & Chesterfield but we rarely played the Sheffield clubs but of course Bradford had two clubs & Halifax , Scunthorpe , Oldham & Rochdale were all fairly local & it was a bit rough in those days with no segregation & access to all parts of the grounds but it was great & whats more it was a working mans sport , it was affordable & it was not run by television ,happy days !
Hey CB, its been said by a few fans from that era, that there was quite a feisty rivalry with us and Bradford. Going back to the mid to late 70s I think. And as for our 'decent' (if you can call it that) rivalry with Rotherham at that time and into the early 80s. I wonder how it would have turned out if we had the media platforms then, that we have now. Like tv and radio and message boards like these.
Lived in Devizes, my old man was in the army, he's from Bradford, mum's from Barnsley, we moved back up north when I was 3 when he left the army in 1976
I was at the 1977 game, aged 8! My Dad and I kicked every stone and pebble on the way back to the train station.
