On this day 35 years ago after being 2-0 down at half time we won 5-2 away at West Ham in the league Cup.
Did you use the VHS tape that I donated for this? I didn’t go to the game but was so stunned when hearing the result that I had to get the video. Our club shop couldn’t provide one so I bought it directly from West Ham’s. I bet not many of their home fans bothered to get one!
Do you know what? I've about six copy's of it including one on Betamax. Every Reds fan must have bought it.
For some reason, I was convinced that this game was the same day as the Kings Cross fire - which didn't happen until mid-November. Strange how your memory confuses things.
I was there but now don't remember too much about the match. I think my first trip to West Ham. The boot was on the other foot in the premiership season when they tonked us there. I was also present and sat with some West ham supporting mates. Not pleasant. Was that Morgan debut game ?
New Cross fire , we played Charlton away a year or two later around the anniversary , for some inexplicable reason we decided to get off at New Cross station just before an NF March was due . Police more or less threw us on a passing bus , we were late at the Valley finished 1-1 , not the best trip back to my girlfriends in High Wycombe, it was like being in the Warriors .
We were at Chelsea in Zenith Data Systems cup/trophy on night of Kings Cross Fire Edit it was in fact called the Simod Cup in that season!!
Thanks. I thought it was a London match night - I can remember someone (years ago) posting that they were on the underground and could smell the smoke and was convinced it was when they were going to the West Ham game.
