For me it's Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton. If Barnsley v appeared next to them I'd want us to win.

Anybody else have teams they have soft spots for or follow?

Stevenage. Went to Uni down Hertfordshire at the end of the 90's and a local (ish) lad on my course lived a stones throw from their ground.

Used to go and watch Watford too. Unless we were away in or around the capital.

As a young un it had to be man utd. First english team to win the European cup. Fantastic players. Best. Charlton, law etc.
Best put bums on seats. And rarely if ever didn't perform. Would watch match of the day just to watch him. And was fortunate to see him play twice live.
But nothing can beat the passion of following tarn.

My Dad was born in 1956 and he had a Sheff Utd team photo on his bedroom wall he got from Typhoo Tea coupons my Grandma collected.

He hates Sheff Utd but it was better than a clip round lug oil :D.

Ever since my Dad first took me to Oakwell back in the mid 70’s, there’s only ever been 1 team for me.

It was Cloughie's Notts Florist for me in the late 70s.
They are my earliest memories as a 'neutral' footy fan, roughly at the time of or just after the Argie '78 WCup.
And its still a brilliant achievement now when you think about it, where he took them from and what they won. The League title, and two League cups, and also two successive European cups, when it was still a proper knockout cup competition then.

Used to have a soft spot for villa and O'Neil in the early to mid 2000s. Good friend of mines dad supported them, they had some cracking talent over the years. For some reason I used to love Carlos Cuellar and Olof Mellberg, and Shunsuke Nakamura at Celtic, he was a fantastic player

Scarborough and Torquay, just because of going on holiday there. I remember the little models from Corinthians and I had a few Spurs players but I never really looked out for their results.

AFC Wimbledon are a soft spot for me, just because of the story and what they came back from

Have to confess I was a Leeds fan till I was ten. Dad took me to Leeds vs Man City 2-2 draw.

"Son I can't take you to Leeds every week. Barnsley have a team".

Next week Barnsley vs Crewe Alexandra. 1-1 draw. That was it. Barnsley all the way for the last 47 years...

Clarke & Hunter arriving a good few years later after the Iley era was some kind of karma. They still brought my happiest times as a Barnsley fan, just seeing the turn around, although I've loved all our achievements ever since, including the highpoint of the Premier League under Danny & the playoff run under Val, and the great season we had under Dave Bassett that ended in disappointment at Wembley. Every game & season is a journey. I'm hoping recent boardroom / court news means we are moving back in the right direction, after the shocker that was last season. For me that was the worst season of all, I never thought anything could be worse than the Spackman season, but it was sadly.

In Duff I trust. Today was poor, but we have a good 'un there.

Where do we get the next Ronnie Glavin from? He would have tore Exeter a new hole today. No one was willing to get on the ball & drive at players like he could.

My dad lived in Stevenage in the 70s (I think) so used to regularly watch them, and still keeps an eye out for their results.

Hate to admit it but it was Leeds for me as well. It was that 7-0 match v Southampton when they were showboating for 30 odd passes doing kick ups, back heels etc. Reminded me of the Harlem Globetrotters. Eddie Grays goals v Burnley as well, one a 40 yard lob and the other where he dribbled past about 6 players. Paddy McCourt-esque.

Liverpool, never went to watch them, but in the mid 70s I used to wear a denim jacket with Liverpool badges sewn all over it. Always got some glares when I stood int Ponty end, funnily enough from some wearing Leeds badges:)

Spurs in sixties … Chivers, Gilzean, Mackay etc.

Went to Oakwell in 76 as it was a mile nearer my house than Elland Road.
Went through a few games of Iley out and then got ST and travelled to most venues away as well.
The memories of all the ups and downs since will stay with me for life.
