Haven't seen this in a while but YouTube decided to recommend it to me, so I've had a little watch again of this documentary presented by Brian Glover. Shot not long after the last market transformation in Barnsley which is quite interesting, especially people's opinions of it. It includes a training session at Oakwell (with Barry Murphy and Macca on the footage). Drinks in chennels with other well-known Barnsley locals. Shots of the old Brooklands Restaurant. Was thinking after the recent transformation of the markets and town centre, it would be interesting to see a remake with modern characters and stories. The most obvious presenter I think would be for Shaun Dooley (or are there other suggestions ) Who'd be in Chennels with him. What else would you add in ?
Brian was one of my Dad's best mates. Brian & my Dad were professional wrestlers in the 60's. Leon Arras & Dave Shade. Dad is still with us, but really ill now. Saw him today before the game. Sadly he's not really with it these days. Grew up with Norman Rimmington, too also.
PS I think the regeneration of the town has been brilliant. I've lived in LS6 for over 30 years, as working in music has meant I had to move away, but not far enough to watch the Reds. Just the way it is. I love living in Headingley, but home is Barnsley.
I am just picturing walking into Chennels to see Shaun Dooley, Kate Rusby and John Stones interviewing Arthur Scargill. Then on the Sunday morning, Stonesy wakes up all dazed and confused with the Dickie Bird monument in bed with him. We need a cameraman and a director on board. This would be good telly.
Millie Johnson would have to be in a new version. Katherine kelly is another great shout. Ian McMillan. Dickie Bird. ME.
