If it was directed at officials he had every right ! They were all awful but more so against us in my biased opinion but they were also awful to them . Every contested ball was deemed to have taken a deflection from one of our players when it was obvious it was from their player . As far as the game was concerned I think both managers have a right to dig at players after a **** show like that tbh . Both teams unable to pass to any degree of professionalism .
Just shows you how **** this league is to say we were both in and around the top 6. Both teams awful today.
I can agree about it being a ***** league tbh but to not being able to pass Is down to players imo. Some of the passes were straight to an opposing player with none of our players being anywhere near the vicinity!
That's because they had someone in their fizzog as soon as they got the ball. Sorts the men from the boys, that does. But if you're passing and moving a la Struber and with Thomas, you can dance around it. We can't. and i don't think, from the long ball stuff, Duff wants us to.
Sometimes games are ugly & you have to roll up your sleeves get stuck in & grind out a result , today was one of those days, not pretty but a clean sheet & a point against a team who will be in the mix is a good point .
Tbh I think they were more punts than any long ball towards our forwards being how far they were from them . Not sure the manager advocates the long ball with how many times he’s criticised them for it. I think it’s players frustration and panick most times . They played today as if passing to one of our players was deemed the wrong option , That was our worst performance since Plymouth imo including the Wycombe and Exeter games . Our forwards had to produce most of the (chances) they had themselves as the final ball most times were shocking and the passing in general were awful , Bolton almost as bad as us but had more chances through our panicking imo , It’s not the first match I’ve criticised the passing and tbh .
They played it out from the back and burst our (often weak) "press" regularly in the first half. I wondered if we had a press tbh. When you refer to us panicking, it was due to their own pressing. That's why we boot it forward. Lots of our supporters thought that was great when Val was in charge, which it was because we had decent forwards. Now we don't.
Wasn’t just boot it up under Val , he advocated playing in the opposition half so it wasn’t only the forwards who played in the opposition half but almost the whole team including at times our goalkeeper . The whole insinuation of long ball under Val is wrong imo he wanted the football to be played in the oppositions half .
Yep and he wanted it to be in the opposition half by booting it there in the first place. That's why we hoofed it into the crowd when we got to kick off. Revolutionary and amusing tactics. Did us proud. Not knocking it. We got to the play offs.
I saw some fantastic football under Val , yes he advocated not messing about in our own half which imo was a relief after watching Gerhard throw Mads under a bus game after game knowing he wasn’t confident enough to play from the back ending in us getting unnecessarily stuffed week after week . Bit Val played some fantastic football among many games I recall Bormuff away where they couldn’t live with us and not a long ball in sight as far as attacking play is concerned .
Agree 100%. Shocking game today, two teams who never troubled either keeper. It’d still be 0-0 if game was still going on now. Awful….
We used to regularly hit a cross field pass not aimed at anyone in particular but it allowed us to get up the pitch and at worst go out of play and press them high up again. Such a simple tactic but so effective.
Disagree about that tbh . We hit cross field passes maybe not at anyone in particular but at least in a general direction of out forward players , unlike today whet we hit it anywhere and often not a reds player in sight and that’s not a criticism of Duff or a comparison to Val . Just a defensr of Vals undeserved criticism and pigeon hole .
There were a number of games under Val where the boo boys would’ve been out because of the football played. I remember even in the Swansea game people being vocally displeased with the football on display. I think no fans was the perfect storm for our style under him.
Some People are vocally displeased at whichever manager or style that’s just the way it is . Gerhard liked the pretty football snd people were displeased because we hadn’t got the players for that style imo . Val played the hand he was dealt and it suited the players , if he’d tried playing a different style I think he would have been burned tbh . But whatever the opinion it wasn’t just long ball by Val and I stand by my opinion .
With val, we played some passages of decent football after aimlessly smashing the ball into the opponents half aided by Dike winning 90% of headers he went in for. He was on to a good thing, then got pillocked out of his game by Rooney blagging him in public and his arse fell out. If he'd have held his nerve and stood by his beliefs then we may have made it over the line.
There was no aimlessly about it , todays passing was aimless to nowhere in particular and ofttimes no where near a black shirt . Under Val was aimed at a certain area where our players were able to compete , todays was aimless but not imo under instruction .
I agree with you, the last 2 games has been hopeless hoofball whereas vals tactics were aimed at a 7 million pound striker who dealt with balls with snow on them.
