Hello all, my father in law is wanting to sell a 1912 gold sovereign in a nine carat gold ring mount size T and half. The year is obviously when Barnsley won the FA Cup and I just wondered if anyone on here or from the club may be interested in buying it for £400. Photos attached please let me know if interested.
The sovereign is London minted and the ring mount is hallmarked for London 1965. Similar ring being sold for £450 on Ebay

If I had £400 I'd absolutely snap your hand off.

Id hang onto that mate until February time. Good prices are ok at the moment but they’re forecast to skyrocket after Christmas time, they usually do for some reason. Good look either way bud. You won’t struggle to sell it.

A little bit more related history for the sovereign. The chap who had the sovereign before it went into a ring had one son who was in the RAF Volunteer Reserve during WW2. He was captured on Java and was a Japanese POW until November 1943. He was on board the hell ship Suez Maru as one of approx 500 poorly POWs. The American submarine USS Bonefish torpedoed the ship and it sank. After the other Japanese ships saw off the submarine, one came back and picked up the Japanese survivors. The commander then gave the order for the surviving POWs to be shot in the sea! His name is apparently on the Singapore memorial.
