Doesn't take away from the fact that coins were thrown though surely? Liverpool FC should be punished for that and Man city should apologise for those fans who were chanting and vandalising the away end.
You are right if Liverpool fans were throwing coins they should be punished. But you can’t then say all City need to do is apologise. Trouble is a fine of a few thousand pounds isn’t much of a punishment for either team
An apology is not enough. And this isn't just aimed towards Manchester City, it is at all clubs. For too long now, "fans" have been able to get away with being thugs just because they are at football. If someone had smashed up a pub, the police would be involved but smashing up away ends at football grounds appears to be accepted because "it's banter" (I hate that term), or they are "having fun". They don't batter an eyelid at the young lasses working, or the families that have gone to watch the game. Why should they when they are just having "fun"? Maybe these individuals should be identified, charged accordingly and billed for the repairs. The clubs should then be increasingly fined per incident and then after a set amount of reported disorder, be hit with points deductions. Maybe then, clubs will actually do something to rid the game of these parasites.
It didn't happen at Man city ground though, so right now there's not a lot else they can do but condemn it. Liverpool on the other hand should have ensured that coins weren't being thrown at Pep, also they could have ejected the man city fans who were chanting.I'd expect there to be fined of course but as you say it'll not be much in comparison to their revenue.
Trouble is Liverpool fans are not whiter than white as they always sing about Munich when playing Man Utd though Man Utd then sing about Hillsborough or Heysel. Doesn't make any of it right though.
That was my original point - we got punished for a handful of fans chanting inappropriate sexist things to an opposition physio At the risk of coming out as a bit of a bloke who doesnt understand - I think a few morons chanting " Get your T*ts out for the lads" is less offensive than the chants Manchester City were directing at Liverpool fans its less serious than trashing the away end which must be quite scary for the stewards in that area and its less serious than throwing coins at opposition players Ive no problem with Barnsley being fined if premiership clubs are given meaningful penalties as well
I disagree with you there @Farnham_Red . It's more intimidating to chant directly at someone. Imagine dreading having to run on the pitch to treat a player in case fans made lewd comments.
Not always - they did used to but not heard it for a while to be honest - both have been as bad as each other
