I try not to get too carried away during sticky patches of form, but that was simply abject. Too slow, laboured, ponderous. Barely a single player who can even do the basics right. The malaise that spread through the squad last season seems to be back.

 

I guess we saw it differently but i saw no lack of trying, just a lack of application. But of course when we lose its cause no ones trying. Is it as simple as just telling them to try harder? Like when we had good wins earlier in the season? Should pass that onto Duff.

 

I think you're arguing with yourself at this point, bud. Are you ok? I'm clearly talking about certain players and you're disingenuously turning it to the whole squad. It's only football, don't be too upset.

 

Or could it be that we weren't good on the day and played against an organised side defensively? So its the players or the manager that are clueless. Maybe give it a bit of time? If we're having the same conversations in May then maybe we need to take a look at one or the other.

 

Just compare the squads from the last 2 games.

Us with players with championship and L1 experience. On paper we have better squads.

Failure is with the tactics and setup of this head coach. He is out of his depth.

We needed someone like Nigel Clough, loads of experience at this level, not someone so unproven and seemingly tactically blinkered.

Our only noticeable tactics tonight we're the long throw and the pointless passing about in defence before launching it aimlessly when under pressure.
Not saying our players are world beaters but they deserve better tacics than what their getting.

 

I feel you on that, Fired. As Barnsley fans we're all used to losing. It's the manner we're losing at the minute. Just doesn't feel like the club of old - probably residual feelings left over from last season no doubt mate.

I don't disagree that the way we are playing, the pointless passing for no reason. Sideways and backwards. The list goes on.

But the players on the pitch aren't covering themselves in glory whatever tactics they are given.

Cadden apart from a decent cross now and again, doesn't look like a player who can run with the ball.

Martin, I've no idea what he was tonight.

Even a so called higher league player Edwards, was shocking.

Norwood and cole don't work in a 3 IMO, they either play in a 2, or one is sacrifices to have 2 wide players either side (although I don't have confidence in anyone to take those roles)

Our squad is totally unfit for the formation, and the tactics on top are making it worse.

The whole recruitment this year hasn't been very good. Far from anywhere near what is required
