I hate the thoughts that I am having right now but I bet I'm not the only one. I was actually looking forward to this season - winning more than we lose; a few new grounds to fill the away ends at; a positive season instead of last year's horror show. But, after a good start playing some sparkling football, suddenly it's all changing. That's not all down to losing one (let's be honest) nippy but lightweight player. It's a club-wide malaise. They just don't seem to know how to play football any more. Odd flashes here and there but mostly abject passing, tackling and slow covering when the opposition lob one over the top. At present we are losing to such big names as......Morecambe, Exeter, Lincoln etc. Next season we could be losing to equally big names like.....Rochdale, Stevenage, Carlisle. I'm not being over-dramatic but we are on a downward spiral and it has just GOT to stop, and soon.
Went to watch Pickering Town in the Northern League last Saturday. Passion, excitement and a fair bit of ability on show. Six quid to get in and a decent pint, at a sensible price, in a friendly social club. The prospect of attending Oakwell on Saturday seems a tad less inviting to be honest.
I get it has been a disappointing last 4 games. But I think you might be being over-dramatic. In the same way as 4 games ago there was nothing to suggest that we would end up on a bad run, football being as it is there is no reason to think we will remain on a bad run forever. And again, for me we're probably above where a lot of people though we would be at this stage anyway. Or at least were 4 games ago? I think see where we are in a few months before overreacting. I also get this is not the prevailing attitude after a (poor ) defeat.
Frustrating thing is that it's not a great league and I honestly believe we are capable of doing much better. I thought the substitutions were strange too, Kane was probably our only ok player yet got substituted while Benson stayed on.
I think we also have to look at who is managing them. Our budget is so far ahead of Lincoln it's difficult to believe we play in the same league. Mark Kennedy would swap his squad for ours in a heartbeat, a million times per second if he could.
What's the atmosphere like? Curious to know if Tarn fans are getting behind 'em Thanks Helen, much appreciated!
Missed tonight as been busy but my phone has been going off non stop. General view from Lincoln fans is it was a good result for them and was mainly down to their coach out thinking ours with his tactics. No idea if true but thought would pass on thoughts from some of them.
Not sure, if we'd actually got sone decent shots in their managers tactics would be rubbish, they let us have loads of possession. I think they cane for a draw but weren't going to say no when that goal opportunity came!
weird tonight...Martin gets MOM (WTF), best midfielder taken off and replaced by another who did nothing. Two subs brought on to save a point with..2 ish mins to go. Players showing a remarkable lack of urgency given we were losing at home. I've seen this squad play some nice stuff and get good results - so they're not as bad as some suggest but what on earth has happened to them? Just no drive from anywhere tonight to take the game to Lincoln, who played a good match. But when you're confronted by a packed defence you have to beat people to take them out of the game and create space, you also need movement ahead. There was just so much wrong with tonight's performance. My MOM was Devante Cole who looked interested and energised throughout but got no decent service.
Off days all round one player to escape the negative comments tonight is kitchen….absolutely Woeful ….it’s no coincidence he gets sent off and we score three goals…then pump three past Charlton whilst he’s suspended. Then comes back and we score 1 goal in 5 games
I don't think we have had a great game all season. What have you been watching? People claim we were brilliant at Wednesday but it was more to do with their woeful finishing that day otherwise they would have got something. We hung on by a thread for a point in a few. Seriously, which game has had you thinking, wow we were excellent? Please don't quote the pizza cup game, it doesn't even register as a real yardstick.
I’ve said this all season I’ve not seen us play well once.. charlton should have beaten us Wednesday were awful.
Bristol Rovers probably. Charlton we were the better team too imo. But i don't expect us to be better than the opposition always. Most of the time when we lose we haven't been, its fine margins. Also this is just (another) new manager and new team so they will need time. I think we both agree we're above where we thought we might be at this point?
Completely agree. Keep this manager with this style of play and we are going to be scrapping to stay in this league come the end of the season. Just a change of tactics/formation and some instruction to counter attack might help, but it doesn't fit our head coaches one dimensional setup.
My thoughts were first half we kept possession very well but they actually looked more like scoring on the break, which they did - looked horrendous defending to me. Excellent finish. second half was garbage, we looked even less like scoring than in the first which I didn’t think was possible. We seemed tactically clueless, generally inept and one dimensional. The players ran out of ideas and started making sloppy mistakes. Crowd getting on their back didn’t help, as it never does, of course. I thought we would finish mid table due to having mediocre players but find recent performances very concerning. Big question mark over what our goal scoring game plan actually is? I genuinely don’t know.
Not in the slightest. A team coming out ofbthe championship with a experience of that league standard and other players with plenty of league 1 experience. We look like we have never kicked a ball before. Teams coming out of league 2, making us look like a pub team. My expectations would be top 6 no less.
