Just take a look at the League 1 table tonight. All the top teams, ie those historically in higher divisions, occupy all the top positions. Consequently all the others fall below them. Usually there are at least one of the bigger teams being displaced by an "over-achiever."

Isn't that Plymouth, barring a spell around 15 years ago, L2 and mid L1 is their usual level ?

Definitely something in this. 4 of the bottom 6 (Cheltenham, Accrington Stanley, Forest Green and Morecambe) are playing in the highest league in their history. Of the other 2, Burton in 24th have spent two seasons in the Championship, MK Dons in 21st have spent 1 season in the Championship. There are just 2 other clubs in the division who are also playing in the highest league in their history: Fleetwood in 15th and Exeter in 10th. Like MK Dons, Wycombe in 13th have played just one season in the Championship.

The teams with the least success and football league experience really have sunk to the bottom. Only Exeter in 10th (which isn't exactly bossing it) are bucking the trend, but while they've never played in a division higher than the one they're playing in now, they are some what of an anomaly as they have a league history stretching back 100 years, they've just never managed to get out of this division the good way.

Plymouth, mentioned earlier, haven't been much good for the last decade, but they've spent 40 years in the Championship, almost half their league history.
