Don’t know if it’s just because he was the winger went I first started going to games but always have fond memories of Owen Archdeacon
My late Father's favourite player (until the arrival of Ronnie Glavin) was Jonny Kelly. I'd probably go for Adam Hammill and Paddy McCourt. The first wingers I saw playing for Barnsley when I started going down were Bob Earnshaw & George Hamsted, so they have always had a special place in my heart.
As ‘proper’ wingers go, I’d have to go for ‘Barra’ , Hammill was brilliant obviously but Stewart was a pure winger up and down the wing delivering precision crosses, would love a younger version now!. ( another I had the ‘pleasure’ of trying to defend against )
I thought Martin was integral to our success. A great tempo player who could turn defence into attack very quickly. Hammill I loved too. He changed the mood of the club every time he joined us. Can’t choose between the two.
My Dad was a massive fan of Kelly & the Robledo brothers. He rarely talks about Barnsley FC these days. He has altzheimer's & is selective in terms of what he remembers. I can still drag some stuff out of the memory banks at times.
Yes, he weighed in with a fair few goals too. Not in the best IMO, but was decent. Not as skilful as Ali Millar, but Millar was hardly an athlete. Was a wing back, but surely Barnard deserves consideration? One hell of a player he was.
Yup, Bob and George, loved 'em. Hamstead corner, Winnie's head, goal. Simples. Oh, how I'd wave my scarf, Dad saying "sit down you silly bugger".
Met Johnie Kelly once in Mitchell & Darfield club. Showed me his knee that was knackered, he could swivel it round. Never saw him play though ‘cos I’m only a young ‘un Barraclough, for me.
I’d like to see a comparison in assists between Hamill and Bullock , baring in mind Bullock played most of his career with in the Championship
There is only one answer. Ladies and Gentleman, I give you Martin Bullock Honourable mention to Adam Hammil for making me feel 8 years old
If we are including wing backs then Nicky Eaden wins quite easily for me. One of the best players I’ve ever seen play for us.
Barra was a class act..Bullock raised the temperature when on a run..good call on Barnard but Adam was a better all rounder, brought others into play and scored his share of goals...oh for just one of these four now eh..
If Eaden is being considered, then I'm going for Scott Wiseman; those lovely flighted passes to the opposition goalies, were something to behold.
