Can you image being a lad and going to Grove Street school - seeing Oakwell every day - playing football in the Yard at dinner time, kicking a little ball around, pretending you were on the pitch across the road? It’s stuff that dreams are made from.....
went there in the 50's (juniors) also was friends with the groundsman's son, they lived in the small terrace at the bottom of the queens ground, I lived in the terrace above the school, so we got to go on the pitch for a kick about a couple of times, I don't think his dad knew to be honest, just walked through the big gates when they were open. WE used to go the A team pitch as it was called back then by crawling under the fencing before they beefed it up. Later on we used to play on the car park, wasn't good for slide tackles, lol.
As soon as I saw this photo it reminded me of an old work colleague in Sheffield from 25 years ago who, from what he described, had a very similar view over Hillsborough. As if that wasn’t bad enough he was an absolute “dyed in the wool” mad Unitedite
I went to Tankersley junior school. We went to Scout Dyke at the same time as the Grove Street lot around the turn of the 90’s. They were funkin horrible! Proper bullies, twice the size of us most of em!
