On Monday July 3rd 1916 the Pavilion Cinema was showing the Barnsley Pals training in France

    Screenshot_20221111-102534.jpg

Two days before that on July 1st they had gone into action on the Somme....270 were killed, wounded or missing in the 1st Battalion, 275 in the 2nd Battalion. I wonder how many people watched their son, brother, father not knowing they had already been killed in action.

Remembering my great grandad, his two brothers and a cousin whom all got through that day with the 14th…. A quick simple switch of position and I wouldn’t be here. As many, many others aren’t….

Also remembering the local regulars and Territorials of that war….
