On Monday July 3rd 1916 the Pavilion Cinema was showing the Barnsley Pals training in France Two days before that on July 1st they had gone into action on the Somme....270 were killed, wounded or missing in the 1st Battalion, 275 in the 2nd Battalion. I wonder how many people watched their son, brother, father not knowing they had already been killed in action.
Remembering my great grandad, his two brothers and a cousin whom all got through that day with the 14th…. A quick simple switch of position and I wouldn’t be here. As many, many others aren’t…. Also remembering the local regulars and Territorials of that war….
