What's wrong with women drivers?

Nowt, in my (cycling) experience the worst drivers are about my age (mid 60s) and have never looked at the highway code for nigh on 50 years. I think there's a VERY strong argument for all drivers to at least have a written test based on the HC every 10 years.

Bit of an ageist generalisation there IMO. Statistically 60-70 are pretty low on the risk of accident table. Eyesight tests should be mandatory though every few years at Drivers above 55. Far too many don't wear either glasses or contact lenses when driving and quite a few would fail an eyesight test. Practical driving test would be better than theory tbh.

 

Aye and then when they reach 70 perhaps send them to room 101

gotta admit my eyesight got worse over the last 3 or 4 years, never needed specs 4 years ago, perfect vision until i started questioning my laptops graphics!
but i cannot drive 100% with them on properly with my varifocals but i cannot see the fancy stuff on the screens without them, adaptive cruise control is the dogs ******, but do you trust it enough? i don't yet

 

I spend a lot of time on the road and sadly have to agree with Brush..you are statistically correct mate but that age group frustrate the he'll out of ya.

 

I can only go by my own experience.
A full practical test would be ideal but based on the fact that the driving examiners are struggling to accommodate new drivers, so retesting all the others would be beyond them without massive investment. A theory test would at least ensure that people keep up to date with the HC. You have a very good point about eyesight though.

 

Psychographic analysis used by Marketing companies targets women for new car purchases. Why? Women are living more independent lives,have sustainable careers, incomes etc. I believe 80% of new car sales are via a credit purchase system or lease. It fits the UK lifestyle economic model.
Emotionally, a car is something to promote the sense of independence, and freedom and reinforce your self image and aspiration.
Personally, I resent having to use a car but have to because I live in the UK and apart from London, we have the worst public transport system in europe.

 

i disagree, i'm 53 and struggle with dash board but i can't wear 2 pairs of glasses but also need need no glasses long range, i need the 2 ronnies with me i think

 

Good post. I don't have a car, don't/can't/not allowed to drive. SYT have also taken away our bus in Wentworth. As if life wasn't frustratingly limited already. So excuse me if I have little sympathy for people's petty motoring annoyances, especially over feminised advertising..

 

Do you mean there is NO bus service in and out of Wentworth? That sounds extreme. I would have assumed,( I know 'assumed makes an ass out of you and me' as the saying goes) in spite of privatisation and deregulation , there would be some sort of requirement for LAs to ensure minimal services were mandatory for rural areas.

 

Have they stopped the Rotherham To Hoyland bus service? Used to get it many a time when we went to Wentworth for a few schooners.

 

They must know I'm coming up to needing a new car.
