Had loads of sympathy for him - think he really has been made a scapegoat. But telling a story to Piers Morgan. Of all people.
There's no way he's been made a scapegoat, he was the only one last season that received loads of praise for last season. No big clubs wanted him or his huge wages anymore, anyone else refusing to come on or walks out early from a match would be crucified, but due to him being Ronaldo...
He has been left out of the team/ squad lots of times - many of which seem inexplicable. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan or anything, but i can see why he’d be miffed at not getting in the squad. That’s where he’s been made a scapegoat.
Given the attitude and planet-sized ego displayed in that interview it's entirely understandable that he'd be excluded from the squad.
thing is, that's probably partly why he's done it. forcing their hand to let him go. would be nice to see the fans turn on him as well.
Has the air of someone who knows time is nearly up...also knows he's not in Man utd's plans going forward so his only option is get out quick and find another team while he still has something to offer. sadly we're watching the decline of one of the games greatest ever players who's used to having his ar*e kissed at every little whim....bit like watching faded pop/ film stars when the phone stops ringing....but he's given the game some memorable moments and we should be grateful for that..
He's a bit like Boris Johnson, he feels entitled and doesn't like it when things don't go well for him. If he loves the game, why not ask for a transfer and accept that he no longer deserves the massive pay he's been getting and go to a "smaller" club, he could even play for nothing (he's got enough dosh for a more than comfortable life). We could have him, provided he was on a free transfer of course...
If I was him, with the fortune he's amassed, I'd say f#%* the lot of you- I'm retiring and moving back to Portugal- if he feels that badly done by
Looking forward to it airing in two parts Wednesday and Thursday. Last season he scored 31 goals in 48 appearances. Then he had to deal with another change of manager and him trying to be forced in to leaving and taking a pay cut to do so.
Debate's raged for years...who's the better player, Ronaldo or Messi? As players I think it's impossible to choose, but as human beings....
I can just visualise the conversation.... KEA: Hey Cristiano, I understand you're now a free agent. What about playing for Barnsley? CR: How much are you paying? KEA: We can stretch to £100 grand.... CR: Per week....? KEA: No, per annum..... ... ... ... KEA: Hello.....Hello....Cristiano...........Hello....... ... ... KEA: I think he's gone....
Impossible to know TBF. Can’t just base on this, don’t forget Messi told Barcelona unless Spain was reasonable over his tax affairs he would leave. I know both got fined, so both guilty, just trying to say we don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. I don’t agree with him doing the interview and it’s clearly to engineer a move in January. If I had to pick as a player it would be R7 by the smallest whisker due to being a little better all round. But nothing in it.
He’s an egomaniac & he’s money obsessed. You still get people now saying how great he is because he’s won the league in different countries. He only left Real Madrid for Juventus because they wouldn’t give him the length of contract & wages that he wanted but Juve did so he went there, it was nothing to do with trying to win trophies in another country. Then he only went back to Man Utd after trying to join City all summer because they offered him daft money. When he joined Man Utd loads of pundits said words to the effect of ‘he’ll individually score plenty of goals but the team will get worse with him in it’. When this happened his fan boys came out with pish like ‘look where we’d be without his goals’ completely ignoring the fact that they’d finished 2nd without his goals the previous season & wouldn’t have spent the season playing a 37 year old that couldn’t press or counter attack effectively. They should never have re-signed him. If at that age you still want to have the team built round you then go & play in America, China, Australia etc where you can still be the big superstar.
This thing with Piers Morgan reminds me of the incident regrading Kevin Pietersen and his removal from the England squad. The one key thing people are forgetting is the age of Ronaldo. He's 37 (over the hill in footballing terms). He might be fit but he isn't for the future. As Pietersen was 34 when his England career came to end. Even without the scandal his time was one drop in form away from being up anyway. Piers Morgan is like a fly round a steaming turd.
