All Joking aside that sounds like a fairly serious and systematic breach. Without knowing the details its hard to really know but he could be looking at a lengthy ban At least he started after he had left us so we cant get dragged into any fallout
We have to assume Southgate was informed as its clearly been ongoing for a while which made selecting him a none starter - we will never know if he would have gone without this but I suspect he had a good chance
Id have taken them both - I think a fit Wilson is a better player though there isnt much in it, but he is too injury prone
For sure Wilson is a better overall player i agree, but Toney would have been nice especially for penalties and as you mention, injuries!
Unless he's been betting on games he is involved in then it's probably a mixture of very stupid and potential addiction. Obviously he needs to be punished as per the rules on betting. However if he does have a addiction I hope he gets offered help too.
Hard to know the ban until we know the full details. Is it like when Steve Clarridge got in trouble for backing himself to score a hat trick against us? As he been getting himself purposely booked?
I thought I had read somewhere there was no suggestion he had been involved in any of the matches he had bet on?
What a shame. He's such a great player. We very nearly and very really should have signed him. I hate gambling. I hate that the whole of football is wrapped up in it. Ivan Toney should be going to the world cup. He won't be, because he likes football, and he's been encouraged to gamble on the sport he loves, dozens of times every day, since before he can remember, and while we're watching and listening and reading about this competition we'll be hit with more adverts that encourage us to gamble (aimed at our kids too) than we could possibly count. Football is corrupt, and the investigation into Ivan Toney's addiction will be largely funded by the money the FA receive from Gambling companies. NO MORE ADVETISEMENTS FOR GAMBLING. IN ANY CONTEXT EVER.
Completely agree Jay. I used to always say when I was younger, how stupid and idiotic footballers were for gambling against the rules, risking everything. It's only when I've grown older & suffered with certain addictions where those black & white lines get blurred, and it's just plain grey. It seems easy to judge or comment, but actually knowing the impact it has on a person is eye-opening, it doesn't always make sense and some people won't ever grasp it, but even without understanding what or why it's happening, support needs to be there for them. Without support, battling one addiction, thinking it's getting better, can easily be replaced by a different addiction steadily creeping up. If it is serious with him, I really do hope he gets all the help he needs - I'm not saying he shouldn't be suspended or whatever as punishment, but I really hope he manages to sort himself out. I think I read it's from 2017-2021, so perhaps this year he's already been handling it
