It's a must win game for Wales, who can only progress with a victory over England, and a draw between Iran and USA. England top the group with a win, and can top the group with a draw if Iran fail to beat USA, or USA win by fewer than 4 goals. The only way England can be eliminated at this stage is by a 4 goal defeat, and anything other than a draw in the other game. Wales have only won once in their last 10 international matches. That was in the playoffs to qualify, against Ukraine. Prior to that win, they'd actually only lost 1 in 10 en-route to qualifying for the World Cup, albeit the quality of opposition they faced in the Nations League was stronger than that in the World Cup qualifiers. They finished runners up of their group, only behind Belgium who they managed a draw against in Cardiff. England and Wales have met 6 times this century, with England winning each meeting. Wales have beaten England 14 times. 12 of these victories were in the now defunct British Home Championship. The other twice were friendlies in 1881 and 1882. In World Cup tournaments and qualifiers, aside from a draw in the qualifiers for the 1974 World Cup, England have won every meeting. With Wales' need to take risks, their poor run of general form, and the likelihood of an England reaction after the disappointing USA performance, I can see England running out comfortable winners in this one, 3-0.
Reckon it'll be close. Welsh passion alone will give them a chance. A lot depends on Southgate's team selection too, guess the undroppable Mason Mount will be first name on the teamsheet. Either a 1-1 draw or a narrow win for England.
Comfortable 7-0 win. 2 red cards for Wales. Kane with 7 pens but misses 3. Stones with a hat trick of bicycle kicks. Foden gets a 1 minute sub appearance at the end. In reality, probably 2 or 3-1 to England
4-0 Wales. I’m in Glasgow and will be watching along with all the other Wales supporters in the pub. Could be very happy bus home tonight.
Be a typical Southgate panic station with 8 defensive players on the pitch trying to hold onto the clean sheet. Boring 0-0 with Southgate claiming they did what was needed by nullifying Wales attacking potential, completely forgetting that they're a third rate footballing nation who should be despatched comfortably.
Haven't Scotchland arranged any friendlies whilst the proper footballing nations are at the world cup? Scotchland v The Turks and Caicos Islands Scotchland v The Cayman Islands Could be suitable standard opponents. Although I suspect the lure of watching any England game would mean nobody would watch Scotchland.
Think Wales will come at us all guns blazing and we will sit back and try and hang on for the 0-0 and hope to snatch a goal on the break its got 1-1 all over it which is no good for Wales
