If a team with the lack of quality like Wales can get to a World Cup Finals, wait while next time when there`s 48 teams in it.There`s gonna be some right dross.

6-7 will likely be regular finalists who didn't qualify this time. :)

Completely agree that there shouldn’t be 48 teams in it but Wales certainly aren’t dross.

Remember that Wales are there instead of plenty of national sides who have been regulars at major tournaments, Italy, Sweden, Ukraine, Russia, Czech’s, Turkey, Greece etc.

Except we were completely incapable of beating them, both in qualifying and in the finals of major tournaments.

How has it proved it? 2 of their most important players are half fit. They drew with the US & were level with Iran until a daft sending off. Lost convincingly against us but that’s to be expected.

You aren’t going to get 32 teams on the same level, they aren’t getting drubbed like plenty of other international sides have at previous world cups.

Iran absolutely towelled them. On top even before the red card. Should have been five or six.

Wales had a go for 45 mins against USA. About all they’ve got in the tank. Too many players at the tail end of their career.

Embarrassing watching tonight. England were alright at best. Wales, needing to win big, set up 5-5-0. Fannies.

Nothing underneath this squad either. Even with the stupid amount of qualifiers for the next World Cup, they’ll be lucky to make it.

    Silly, useless *****.

I agree. I saw nothing tonight to appease the pain of missing out on seeing Barmby, Anderton, Sheringham, Mabbutt, Gascoigne, Waddle and co at USA 94.

    Very harsh that.

If Iran are 5 or 6 up they’re incredibly clinical. You’re talking about scoring every half chance.

USA drew with us & never disgrace themselves at world cups & Iran took 4 points from a group containing Spain, Portugal & Morocco at the last World Cup. Both are in the world top 20.

Of course they’ll do well to qualify for the next World Cup, Europe are only getting an extra 3 places & none of Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden, Norway, Turkey, Greece, Czech’s etc went to this World Cup. All countries with far bigger populations & player pools to pick from.

There’s no such thing as a bad European team making it to a World Cup. It’s hard graft getting there for any European side.

I’ve grown up watching some terrible sides get battered in world cups & Wales don’t compare to them.

These rankings mean absolutely jack all though, shouldn't be used to prove nor disprove any point about international competitions

Brilliant England performance. Again. I think we'll win it. Without doubt, the best squad we've ever had in terms of strength in depth. And a manager who isn't scared to change it up. For the first time in almost 30 years, a national team and coach to be proud of, who are just nailing and yet people are slagging them off. It's just bizarre.

They clearly don’t mean jack all. I’m sure we all disagree with individual sides rankings but is there a team in there who deserve to be 15 places or more different in the top 40? They’re pretty realistic.

I think Belgium obviously aren’t the 2nd best side in the world right now but they only lost to the winners in the last 2 major tournaments & topped their qualifying group.

But the point is if you’re ranked top 20, it’s pretty realistic. You don’t deserve to be ranked 40th

I think this hits the nail on the head. I don’t know if I agree we’ll win it (I might if we beat France) but the strength in depth especially in attacking positions is the best it’s ever been in my lifetime.

France is the key for me, because Switzerland/Portugal/Croatia/Germany in the semis looks extremely unscary on current form. I think we'd despatch any of them will ease.

Think the 96 squad outstrips this one going forward in terms of depth personally.
Shearer, Sheringham, Ferdinand, Fowler, Anderton, Mcmanaman

I doubt a single Welsh player would have got in the England squad, never mind team.

Bale and Ramsey, the two quality players at the end of their careers and the majority of the rest Championship at best.

England did what was needed and the first half softened Wales up. Second half far better team and Wales offered nothing in attack.

    John Stones is absolute quality.

Assuming we beat Senegal of course - we should do but they are going to be much more dangerous than Wales or Iran were - they scored 5 goals in their last 2 games
