For me, haranguing the referee should be a yellow card on the spot. It's an absolute disgrace and adds to the games ill repute.

Stop booking players for taking their shirt off when they score -oh & a booking for any player that plays the man, not the ball. Give penalties (or free kicks) every shirt tug in the area. Ref has a word with the offender currently & let’s it go when it happens straightaway

Agreed, they should adopt the way of rugby where only the guilty player/s and their captains can appriach the ref.

Goal keepers wasting time. Ref shouts at them to hurry up for 30 mins then makes a big show of booking them in the 93rd minute wasting more time. Send one off for 2 yellows after 60 mins they’ll soon stop

Retrospective bans (lengthy ones) for any player diving, simulating injury, clutching his face etc.
Ten match ban. It would soon stop but FIFA, the self appointed fair play paragons, aren't remotely interested. They'd rather, as stated above, book players for taking their shirts off.

This will never, ever happen. No football games would ever finish! :DIt's just natural instinct a lot of it. There's certain times where it's cynical & OTT, and that'd be fair to give a foul against, or when they're shirt pulling in the opposite direction or not even looking at the ball

When the ball is going in the net but is stopped from doing so by the hand of an outfield player, I wouldn't give a penalty I would give a goal and possibly send the outfield player off if in the opinion of the referee it was intentional.

I'd say if it was deemed intentional it should be a straight red and a penalty goal awarded like a penalty try in rugby.

I'd change the rule for penalty kicks. Don't know how exactly, but it's so frustrating to see a game decided by a penalty that has been awarded for an accidental handball at the edge of the box. The current rule obviously isn't unambiguous enough, because every referee seems to make their own rules on the fly. Same goes for these incidents where an attacking player goes down after the lightest of contacts in a "non-dangerous" place - that Ronaldo dive is a good example for that, he was never going to score which is why exactly he threw himself in the ground. Messi wasn't going to score against Poland either.

Maybe let the fouled player take the penalty kick from the spot where the incident happened? If it's close enough to the goal, then take it to the spot in the middle. That'd make penalty kicks much more interesting too.

Yeah, that's never going to happen, but something needs to be done.

The main thing I'm liking about this world cup is time actually being added on properly - or at least more properly than is usual in domestic football.

Every time Sheffield Wednesday score, it counts as a goal for the other team.

    Nice and simple.

Take time-keeping away from the referee and have a time keeper. Stop the clock when the ball is dead. Allow the referee to concentrate on the game. This would not stop the deliberate rhythm- killing injuries, substitutions etc but, at least, it would remove a huge part of the incentive to cheat.

It’s still a rule. I’ve had this conversation with officials numerous times. Yet none of them implement it.

For clarity, there was an example last night where Brad had the ball in hand for 14 seconds before kicking it.

Officials are terrible though. The one area of the game that never, ever improves. To the point where we’ve now got video technology and yet the officials still fail. I was at a non-league game today, and the four blokes in charge might as well have been beamed down from Mars. Clueless.

Also, after nearly 350 games working in the sport, I’ve met, spoken with and experienced the actions of the officials. There are a fair but admittedly small number who I’m convinced are doing the job purely for vanity reasons. To be effective. To impact something.

I’ll leave it there. There are plenty who do a great job also.

We’re 4th. England will win tomorrow. Up the Tykes.

    - Proper Multiball system with 6 balls in play at any one time
    - Goalkeepers have to wear clown shoes or flippers on their feet.
    - Powerplay for first 15 minutes of the game where it is 6 v 6.
    - Last 10 minutes of the game have a foul moratorium where no cards can be issued by the referee, encouraging violent foul play.
    - At least 4 players on each team must consume 6 pints of beer or equivalent during the first 70 minutes of play.

I remember Charlton fans chanting/counting when the ball was in the keepers hands. Quite effective.

This is rare, but suppose a match goes to penalties, and one side is down to ten men (due to a red card, not injury). If all is equal after 10 penalties, the side with 11 men should win the match.
