I can't see it would be. He gets useful wickets, and from what they were saying about training seems to be leading the way with Stokes
There's absolutely no way anyone in their right mind drops Joe Root. He's our best player, especially in English conditions. Crawley, Duckett, Pope, Stokes and Bairstow all average lower than 35 at home - Root averages over 50. Its all well and good smashing it all over in sub-continent conditions, but the technique and mental strength needed to bat for a long time in England is completely different. After Stokes, he's the first name on the sheet.
Some of the comments in these threads are laughable. Root has a spot in the team until the day he retires.
3-0 series win in Pakistan that’s an unbelievable achievement. Achieved with Root and Stokes barely scoring a run between them as well which makes it even more special. Well done England.
Potentially, Root could have 12 more international innings before the Ashes and if he doesn’t perform, he’ll be under threat of being rested. All players have a temporary loss of form and may volunteer being left out. I think it’s very unlikely though. I remember Gower, Gooch and Boycott being dropped….
Some players need a kick up arse. Bairstow is a conundrum. His eye was in when he got injured. Will his eye still be in after injury? I don't know why people moan about Stokes and Root. They're the only two batsman we have that can go up and down the gears. Depending on the situation.
They’re also world class at forcing the pace or shutting up shop. Sorry, that’s basically what you’ve just said
Yeah lol. The other batsman need telling how to play and take their clarity from the coaches. Root and Stokes don't need that. Without them it crumbles in spite of how good the form of the others is.
That's how I think the top 7 will pan out. I'll be surprised if Robinson is left out of the attack though. More likely Anderson and Broad will be rotated, alongside Wood or Archer.
I just thought it was funny - doubtless the same person will be suggesting England Footy team drop Kane - he did miss a penalty last game after all
