I retired almost 6 years ago at age 60. Although I am now really enjoying my retirement, I hadn't fully understood the need to build a new life away from work (and home/family). It took me a few months of kicking my heels before I decided to get out and create one. I am lucky in that I have hobbies and interests that I am now pursuing in the company of others. But I definitely learned that you have to get out there and get it, because it won't necessarily come to you. Anyway, I wish you a long happy and healthy retirement!
I found the first couple of years were great catching up on projects around the house, then especially in the winter months it`s hard to fill the time. That`s just me though.
Happy retirement! I'm 57 & self employed. Slowly trying to take things easier. Can't see me giving up the music game anytime soon, but I try and make time to do the things I love & not put making money as my number one priority. I learned in lockdown that I could live on less. Everyone has a different approach. My Dad retired at 58. He's in very poor health now at 86, but him & my Mum, (sadly now departed), spent 25 glorious years travelling in France every summer in their camper van. It's good to have a plan & some goals methinks. All the best.
Happy retirement. Must feel so liberating. 12 years left for me, but still feels like a bit of a countdown. 60 and I’m out.
And when they say "Retiring? Whatever are you going to do with yourself." The reply is "Whatever I like!" Enjoy it mate.
Soz, in work and I am 9 years away from State Pension age, kids have replaced hobbies and I don't have owt substantial to replace either at the moment so wondered what he was going to do with his time.
Ye many ask that question and I'm very lucky. I'm a member of a fishing club.am gonna travel more with hoyland reds away games.. am involved in a victorian house renovation. I have a weekly hiking walking session which includes lunch and like to trade in the auction/boot sale world....plus my wife has just halved her hours so the travel bug is in full flow..also looking at singing at some of the afternoon clubs...hence the exciting bit. but your right kestyke I've prepared over recent years for this day coming..
Ey up skinner. Happy retirement. I threw the towel in early in april (hated mi job in the end and chalked **** on it, so made the decision easy) . Get mi bus pass and state pension next week. Congratulations mate. I retired 13 years ago though I did another four part time. I suggest you try what I do. In retirement I'm perfecting what I thought I was good at, doin' nowt.
Congratulations, mate. When I retired, I went back to university to study archaeology and did some wrestling. The world's your oyster.
