Not sure I have seen a more uninspiring short list of candidates for this award......I amazed the golfer Matt Fitzpatrick is not on short list too......this award has lost a lot of its prestige over the years for me.....suppose to be expected given the BBC’s coverage of top class live sport has dwindled
Has it not just been a slow year for British sport as a whole? Everyone on the shortlist has won a major title this year of some sort. I reckon Beth Mead will win it, which again is great for womens football in this country.
I think @fired should get it. About time we started recognising some of the good work done out in the community/grass roots level.
Lionesses will get SPOTY, coach of the year and team of the year full sweep. That might have a negative impact on ratings with the results being so obvious.
I’ll be honest, I’ve lost interest in this over the years. Especially when Tyson Fury didn’t win it a few years back. But surely Jos Butler is in with a shout?
I'd love to see Beth Mead win it, especially as she actually seems to have a personality. Unlike some of the previous winners.
Biggest waste of money ever. Why does the BBC need to do a sports award (an incorrectly named one at that) Surely it should be run and funded by sport England? Televise it etc but why the BBC? Anyway, big arse kissing event that doesnt appeal to me. Hope whoever it does appeal to enjoys it though.
I got Stokes at 40’s and cash out value currently stands at 5x the stake. Still think Mead will win it but Stokes is showing 9/2 now
Jonny Bairstow for me, but they've decided not to nominate him. Some of his innings this summer were amongst the best ever for any side, not just England.
Matt Fitzpatrick not being on the list is scandalous, the other shock is that they’ve not got a three day eventer on the list or a Polo player
Tend to agree, but remember millions of people would have issue with the World Cup final on Sunday. As Sir Dick of Attenborough would say...the BBC is for everyone.
Just been watching SPOTY ....... not sure who will get the award but only one winner on there tonight for me.....KEVIN SINFIELD,,,......outstanding fella and true inspiration to all......him and Rob Burrows have just brought all audience to their feet, so sad a story but 2 great blokes
