We've just had a cold snap and to be fair I've used the heating I'd say sparingly. Keeping it above 15 through the night and a morning and evening boost for couple of hours to lift it to nearer 20. A rated boiler set to economy settings. Just got the statement through 270 quid for the month. Sure I'm supplying the street. Does that look excessive?
We have only had our heating on from 6pm but I have had to use the electric wall heater in my study during the really cold spell as I couldn't have worked in there otherwise and it's not connected to the central heating system in there. Our bill for middle of November to middle of December was £191 gas and £197 electric. Nearly 400 quid for 1 month. There's some car charging in there as well but bloody hell... My big mistake was choosing not to put batteries in at the same time as solar 3 years ago. The figures didn't stack up at the time as the difference between day rate and night rate was only around 8p back then but had I known then that the difference between day rate and night rate would be nearly 30p by now I would have got batteries.
£200 gas for November, and that's being fairly sensible. 16 degrees through day, 18 degrees from 5-10. Leccy £140, but that includes EV charging.
Looks to be on par then really, based on those replies. Have been looking into some of the smart heating systems like hive etc. So if anybody has any good experience with any of the setups, would be interested to hear which may be a good choice.
I've had Tado for a few years. Works well and has a good app, for scheduling and remote access etc. Also has geofencing, which means it switches on/off when you're physically out of range (up to about 5 miles).
£107 for 7 Nov- 7 Dec on Gas (4 bed detached, well insulted) Expecting December- January to be more, as we have had the heating on a lot more. For perspective I'm actually below the current "pirce Gurantee rate" I did a back of a envelope calculation of the meter reading the other day and reckon I'm looking at £150-£200 for the Dec-Jan one. It's very expensive
set it at the temps you want and use scheduling. beyond that, not much more you can do tbh. if it's on it's on
That's what I do in winter have it set to 15 through the night and 19.5 in the day. The actual temperature settings can be very dependent on where the thermostat actually is so it's a bit of trial and error where you want it set to. I've tried to find a level where I don't find myself getting too warm and turning it off as I feel that would be wasteful.
Gas and Electric. My standing order is £246 November = £165 + vat December so far = £235 + vat Most expensive day was £15.31 for both. Semi detached, single wall cavity, no double glazing in lounge or main bedroom windows. Double glazing in other windows is old and probably needs replacing. Indoor temperature in the recent cold snap was 12c for most of the day. Tempted to turn it off in other rooms but damp is a concern. Private rent.
So how does insulting your how work then? Do you go gentle with it or do you really let rip with some good old Anglo Saxon?
£110.49 gas and electric, 3 bed semi, gas for heating and hob. We have it set at 18 during the day when we’re in the house (15 for hours we’re not in) on a weekday, 19 all day weekend and 12 every night. Will works from home 3 days a week.
