I have been thinking of investing in a Faraday box for a little while. But you just don't think it will happen to you. Reading this thread has convinced me. On my to-do list for today.
I read that a box is generally more robust and longer lasting. I believe the Faraday cage loses its effectiveness after a while in the pouches?
Just got a hire car at Stansted free ...ahem...upgrade. Keyless. Staying at our daughter's and hers is also keyless. They have Faraday pouches on their key hooks in the kitchen that blocks signals. they must be cheaper and certainly more convenient than a metal box or safe but don't see how a metal mesh can " lose effectiveness". Metal is metal.
That's exactly what the police advised us to do obviously after the event, so bought a couple of pouches that now have no keys to go in
I am guessing because a pouch is more malleable but I guess there are good quality ones and ones that are not so good. I am on a motoring forum and have seen lots of people on there suggest their pouch stopped working after a few years. But no reason to suggest that many will be fine. I just think a box will be more convenient also because my car keyring has loads of other keys on it as well and Pouches are not very big.
Hence why I have a cheap, old car and always will. Genuinely, I would never ever own a desirable car and if I somehow won one I would immediately sell it. Even if I won the lottery and could afford to just replace it/the parts they inevitably nick, I don’t want the hassle or them in my house.
Possibly, but most of us don't own cars that are THAT desirable they are being specifically targeted to order. I suspect a bigger proportion are opportunistic thefts and if they fail with mine they will just move down the street and try someone else's. If they really really really want my Kia for some reason and break into the house for the keys, they can have them. But I suspect not.
What I was trying to say was, unless you have a desired car i.e. Audis, VWs etc then a signal blocker pouch is probably unnecessary. It might reduce the risk a little, but if they want it theyll still come in for the keys.
Yeah, they’re wanting hi speed vws and Audis, so they can put cloned plates on and drive around committing burglaries and have a decent getaway vehicle.
The majority of vehicles been taken are fords. Fiesta and the kuga are popular . Also Ford transits are so easy to take
I know we don't all have garages but surely, if you've got one, and a decent car, you should put it away at night. If the scum are driving down the street looking for targets then yours is well hidden and will stay there. I've had houses with driveways and garages in the past and have always made a point of making space in there for the car. Too many people don't bother so, I suppose, they are asking for trouble. That doesn't mean that they deserve to be a victim but it would make sense to protect an expensive asset the best way you can.
