I think, to make that Channel 4 broadcast a tad more embarrassing, said person outside said cinema went as far as to say something along the lines of ‘Brexit is great. They can now send all them Muslims back to POLAND’. Poland…99% Catholic!!! Proud day and great representative of us town folk!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn’t mind, but how many Muslims have you seen in Barnsley?

Horrendous racism. But it’s poor education, easily manipulated by the media.

Good man. We have far too many people who do vote when they don't understand something.

Hence the use of the word ‘embarrassing’ coupled with the exclamation marks :)

I'm a teeny bit jealous of people like you Winker.

Not because I'm doing badly (3 lovely holidays last year - 3 booked for this, we run 2 cars etc) - but because I can't not care that my taxes are being stolen to be gifted to politicians and their mates, that simple working folk are being played by an elite who are taking ever more and leaving less and less to those worst off in society.

I'm saddened that it's only when you find yourself in need of medical care or your life needs some state help that you'll realise that all the money went, that the country has literally spent billions of yours and my money propping up the economy cos of all the trade we've lost.

But before then - enjoy your blissful ignorance - I simply cant.

If its ignorance, then so be it, but i'd rather be ignorant to politics, than a bitter old man whinging about everything and nothing, i'm not alone, theres another 13 million ignorant people out there and i wouldnt know one of them if i passed em in the street, me personally i'd say its just lack of knowledge, i tuned into debates on t.v, and with all the falling out and pro's an con's, i was non the wiser, the only thing i liked about politics was Angela Raynor, she was always on top of her game, but do you vote cos you like somebody, if that's the case i'll start going to Church cos i fancy the Vicar, don't think so.Sorry i'm ignorant, but my life goes on regardless.

I'm afraid you appear to be ignorant to the meaning of the word ignorant.
Because after being indignant when I described you as being blissful in your ignorance you said...
Which is exactly what I wrote :)

And BTW I'm far from bitter, I have some concerns about the world we're leaving for my grandkids (and that's not trivial), but life is sweet - we're on the verge of retirement, with healthy pension arrangements, a happy healthy and loving family. We have our health and we're looking forward to 3 or more holidays a year until we become too infirm. Being aware does not equal bitterness ;)

I was'nt refering to you as being bitter, i was refering to myself as being bitter, if you read all these threads on ere over the last 5 yrs regarding politics, it alway's ends in a war of words, bitter and nasty and calling each other out. You've done well by the sounds of things, well done, i retired at 55, i only pay tax's on my pensions, i refused to go to work and pay 40p in the pound taxe's, i did it 4 9 months, not working for p nuts. And i'm still happy with my life, at the moment.

All working people should be able to afford champagne*. ;)

Or more seriously - we come from fairly humble backgrounds and we've worked hard. And oddly not everyone in that position automatically becomes a working class tory, some of us keep our sense of fairness.

*and because we're proudly British (without being Nationalist) we prefer good English sparkling to the French stuff :)

Can you explain what's wrong with having a comfortable lifestyle and being a socialist? My mate is a paramedic, I earn more than him and I think that's wrong, also I'll get to retire at 60 and he's got no chance, and that's even more wrong. They're Socialist values, and not at all inconsistent with my lifestyle.

Surely it's a good thing, and certainly better than having nothing but still supporting right wing politics that leave you increasingly worse off.

edit to add - Also I find it hilarious that our 'comfortable' lifestyle is mocked as 'luxurious' whilst a Tory peer has just pocketed £29m of our taxes and pretends to be deserving of it.

I would have told them any investment for infrastructure etc. in the region would have been EU money. Outside of the EU, any investment in the region would have to be Tory sanctioned; whenever have Tories sanctioned serious money to be spent in South Yorkshire? Never, they sanction it for that pit of depravation, Richmond , North Yorkshire.

I'd much rather that than having to deal with a person who preached socialism while they were poor and then conveniently saw the error of their ways once they made a bit!

Part of the reason for the anger is that a lot of those who are "bitter and nasty" will never have what you've got, no matter how hard they work.

I'm pretty sure your parents' generation, or the one before that, didn't have it either. So why do you? It's certainly not because they all sat back and stayed out of politics. They got angry, and for a time that made things a bit better.
