Traffic chaos all around Oakwell. Reason given? A broken down coach blocking the entrance to the carpark on grove Street. Reality? No coach just piss poor pathetic planning
There is a broken down coach! He's managed to breakdown on the Crossroads - blocking the route into the away car park.
All the traffic approaching the ground from this side of Barnsley has to be sent down onto Grove St, clogging up all the approach roads. There are Marshalls there trying to assist drivers.
I do not miss attending at this time of year. Congestion around the ground is unavoidable really and the walk around train station is a killer in the cold for my bad knee.
All the away fans were entering thru home car park but still not as much of a farce as what’s on the pitch.
For some odd reason they had the gate at the bottom of the Ponty car park by Popeyes food van open before the game and I dunno how nobody got hit.
What is it with these gates on beever court being locked at full time…absolute utter joke and the two security guards advising people to walk back to the car park and down the sludge path…..
That really was a nightmare, with Ponty Road rammed both ways and Oakwell Lane a car park from top to bottom. Bloody dangerous for us pedestrians too. But I asked Beth about it at the end of the game and she said it was a one-off due to the broken down coach (which took out 3 roads) exacerbated by the police - not the club - closing Grove Street. I'm happy to believe Beth that it was a situation beyond the club's control and as usual the staff on the ground had to bear the brunt.
Even with the broken down coach someone shouldn't have made that decision. It was a death trap waiting to happen. You had people crossing over from the bottom of Oakwell Lane which was gridlocked with cars. You had tailbacks left and right trying to cross over. Then you had cars dodging pedestrians walking through the open gate and a huge queue at the food van with no steward or cop down there to look after things.
Agreed. The coach should not have affected traffic entering the carpark at all. Whoever made that decision put a lot of lives at risk.
Someone risked lives because getting the traffic down quicker was more important to them. Be good if our supporters club could find out who made that decision.
It didn't get the traffic down quicker though it caused traffic chaos. I'm very confused where this coach was apparently stuck that meant that grove Street had to close. I didn't think the away carpark was accessed via grove Street anyway.
Worse still they then shut all the turnstiles except 1 in to the east stand got to my seat just as they put the penalty away. It isn't difficult to make simple decisions when things change As someone said before whoever made these decisions is in the wrong job.
That's where I thought it was too but that still doesn't explain the complete closure of grove Street
Barnsley council should be ashamed of themselves the fiasco they cause on matchdays how the hell Houghton got a knighthood i do not know. He is the only person i know that does his job worse than the last 3 referees at oakwell
