Statistically speaking, a team near the top of the table should be in the opponent's box putting pressure on and getting penalties. And not under pressure in their own box and so not conceding penalties. Hard to explain why a team near the top (Barnsley) have been awarded none and conceded so many....
To be fair, we don’t attack a huge amount (using shots on goal / shots on target ) ranking 10th then 13th in the league respectively. Our number of penalties awarded is therefore low but perhaps not quite as surprising as you would think. our strength lies in our organisation and preventing teams from shooting against us - we have allowed only 51 shots against us all season and rank 1st in that regard. What is interesting is that Bolton rank 5th bottom for shots on goal but have been awarded 5 penalties (the most). Would suggest they’re good at falling over in the box when they get there.
Good research What is interesting is that Bolton rank 5th bottom for shots on goal but have been awarded 5 penalties (the most). Would suggest they’re good at falling over in the box when they get there. I think this is what rankles...its not like we don't get in the box and go down similar to players against us....its our decisions and not being as convincing as our opponents. Our overall play is good and we are well set up.....Norwood and Cole both have plenty of games but get nothing in or near the box.
Apparently its the officials fault. Every game we have not won has been the fault of the referee or assistants according to this forum.
I agree to an extent. But there has to be more consistency with refs. Take a look at the pigs penalty. Why wasn't the cambridge player sent off. No attempt to get the ball. More of a shooting opportunity for the striker. Almost a carbon copy. We have had genuine shouts turned down and some wishful thinking on fans part. Tbf the one we were given against Crewe was a joke imo .
If only it was that simple. In the Stendel season we were constantly high pressing, scoring and winning for fun, but nonetheless we only got a handful of penalties through out the season. Unlike Charlton who got a hatful.
But yesterdays was as theatrical as they come - Far more than Norwoods against Fleetwood which wasn't given
We gave the ball away far too many times yesterday, it leaves defenders scrambling to get into position and leads to things like being the wrong side of the defender - must have happened 3-4 times yesterday one of which lead to their penalty.
The first 10 minutes was like watching us under Schopp. Lose the ball near their area and then their striker has it in our box 2 seconds later
Although I rate Anderson highly he his awful running towards his own goal chasing a player . Clumsy at best
On the subject of Mad's red card, did I imagine it that the rules on the last defender had changed such that a penalty was deemed to be sufficient punishment and the offender should just get a yellow?
I thought the same but I'm told that's just in the case of goalkeepers giving away a penalty not outfield players.
