In 2006 Martin Devaney had him in such a spin he was off at half time. Kicked on a bit since then. Barnsley devour Bale on toast and vow to carry on attacking | Football | The Guardian
I remember that game. That was the game where my Dad celebrated Southampton scoring their equaliser because he had 2-2 as a correct score bet. Luckily for us it didn't draw any attention.

He has had a great career, winning lots and playing for one of the best sites and cities in Europe. He had the balls to play abroad which far too few British players do.
Seems to have been happy with his work/ life balance , has won trophies and got his country to the world cup. I'm sure he's made enough money to have a lovely retirement.
Outstanding player. Easy to forget just how good he was for them couple of seasons at Spurs before he got the Real move. If his peak lasted more than a decade I think he’d be in the debate for best British player but he only really had 6-7 years playing regularly at the top level before injuries took their toll.
Big G will probably get a post with FA Cymru/Wales. Regarded as a legend and very popular in the Principality. o/t - Euro qualifiers start this March - first match Cymru v Croatia - key player - Kieffer. o/t-o/t - Ryan Giggs re-trial fixed for July 2023 - nearly three years after first arrest!
Sundays in Cymru - a day of rest - nothing sporty - and a trip (trips) to the local Methodist Chapel.
