Should have been offside and no goal. You shouldn't be allowed to block off the ball from defendeds whilst claiming you're not involved in play, just because you didn't touch it.
It would be crap because you'd have defensive lines forced to stray no further than the edge of their 18 yard box. It would kill football.
They have tried to make deciding offside decisions as complicated and methodical as possible, with phases of play and cycles of movement and whatever else they describe it as. The day light rule was good enough. Anything less than daylight was basically onside and everyone was ok with it. People who don't understand the game are trying to make it a complicated technological science when there is no need. Rashford couldn't have interfered more without actually scoring himself. He basically performed an emergency stop not to touch the ball. We've seen goals ruled out for a player passively stood offside but nowhere near the ball. Others ruled out for a player's nose been offside. VAR just gives extra ways for inconsistent decisions to be made.
100% this rule was made by someone who has never played football. I'm not suggesting you have to have played pro football to understand or make rules, ofcourse not. But when it's something so unique and detrimental as this new rule, clearly they've naffed up. If Rashford wasn't offside, if he was behind play, that ball get's cleared easily, defender wouldn't have had to run around Rashford for one. It's ridiculous. Same as Salah's goal last week.
Offside for me. If I had Marcus Rashford running at me with the ball, I’d feel a little bit interfered with.. Oo-er..
You can basically have someone stood yards offside and play the ball towards him knowing defenders will have to try to get to the offside player because you don’t know if the linesman will flag. Then with a defender out of the picture, a player can run from deep with less defenders on him. Teams tried it against us in the Ismael season. But even with the current laws, I’ve no idea how that wasn’t disallowed. He’s virtually shielded the ball for yards then dummied it for fernandes
Just seen it on MOTD. Whoever has rewritten the rule to make Rashford interference not count wants firing. Of course he significantly affected play The offside rule has been really screwed up and it hasn’t improved the game
Ridiculous. Ironically it made the idea of offside redundant as the defender's attempts at doing so proved worthless. In my view it's just an attempt to create more goals, because goals = higher viewing figures. Nothing to do sanctity of the game itself.
It was aimed at Kalvin Phillips, who was warming up on the touchline. Relating to his supposed weight problem. Not sure if that makes it right though....
