I think we were without Mowatt for a couple of them late season games, in fact I don’t think he was 100% after his injury in the play offs. Moon / Halme alongside Palmer was never going to be great viewing.
Yep don’t disagree at all. I personally found his style of play frustrating, but couldn’t knock the results. Was a weird season, where a lot of fans only ever physically saw him once, some never at all.
Absolutely baffling some folk in this thread. We are Barnsley fc, massive underdogs in the Championship in recent times, & Val came in & completely set us up how we should be set up, little old Barnsley, Battling Barnsley, getting in the opponents faces. It wasn’t pretty sometimes, but that’s the whole point, we will never ever have the budget or players to set up & try to “football” teams to death, & when we try, because it puts the value up on players apparently, it’s completely embarrassing, just like under Schopp. Now look where we are.
Atmosphere? I don't think Whitey and a few others screaming whenever we scored could be called an atmosphere.
His tactics certainly divide the fans - I think it depends on your expectations - was never going to work at the Baggies as they obviously fancy themselves as the Midlands Ajax for some reason. I'd have him back tomorrow but I cannot wish anyone well who goes to Cardiff, I hope they never win another game as long as they exist.
Why baffling? Genuine question. Looking through the thread, what I've picked up is 'style of football not always to everyone's liking, but couldn't fault the results and ultimately a brilliant season'. Seems reasonable enough to me.
And let’s not forget, the club itself describing this season as a failure because we did not sell anyone.
He got a side containing Victor Adebanga and Romal Palmer to 5th in the Championship. Deserves a lifetime supply of virgins from Barnsley on this basis alone
Don’t forget his season was described as a failure by the ex Man City Scout because we didn’t sell anyone.
