Mass strikes in France due to try and halt Macron's retirement age increase from 62 to 64!!

Meanwhile back in the UK, Govt plans for 'work until you drop' are ongoing

Heard one person say “we’ll be working till we die. Then we might be able to go part time”

They like a good protest do the French. When they're actually at work they put in a lot less hours than we do over here.
Last place I worked we had a sister company in France and they seemed to get most of the summer off.

And yet French productivity is higher than British.

We like to think we work longer and harder and better than everyone else but the data points to something very different.

That’s not what I was getting at to be honest. Just pointing out that they spend less time actually at work and their state retirement age is a lot lower than ours.

Spot on. And the pension handouts are greater.

    Mandatory state pension provision
The scheme aims to provide up to a maximum of 50% of the retiree's income during their 25 highest earning years up to the Plafond de la sécurité sociale (€41,136 annually in 2022). The state scheme is financed by a payroll tax known as "social security contributions".

How the British public is indoctrinated into believing that working until you're older is a badge of honour, whilst those working less are somehow lazy scroungers is a thing of mystery.

And as stated by Rosco, even more bizarre when you realise French production is higher than the UK, despite working less hours and retiring earlier.

Who are the idiots here? The French for protecting their rights, or the British for not doing anything to improve theirs?

I always lived by the rule work to live and not live to work. And didn't chase the expensive cars or expensive luxuries. No regrets whatsoever. Only buying and paying what I could afford. (Only debt I ever accrued was during the miners strike no regrets there either) I do have to admit I think I'd have found it a little more difficult in todays world. My mrs gave up work for 12 yrs to bring up the kids. (Which included the miners strike)
And I wasn't on mega bucks, in fact less than average earnings. 1988 I took redundancy. My average earnings were £8k.
More power to the French elbow. We in this country are a feeble lot. Hopefully all these strikes waken every fecker up as to give em a bigger backbone so to speak. Sick of the we are lucky brigade.
Someone the other day said his mate. Hated his job but loved his expensive 4 weeks holidays. Ffs.

And the reason this lot are trying to destroy/finish off what she started with the unions. The advertising posters say it all. Our ancestors who fought for rights. Better standards of living must be turning in their graves.

Some of today's lot. " oh, I can't afford a day on strike" ask the question why? you stupid feckers.

Another thing that gripes me. "I'm not paying union dues. They do nowt for me" well take the first offer on the table yer selfish pricks. Not wait for the increased offer achieved by the unions. And fight your own battles instead of asking for union assistance when you get into trouble.

My mrs was in the union when working. (One of only two) fought a trumped up case where all those not in the union got warnings. Won and they (the company) had to rescind the others.
    Parasites.

    Rant over

Nice to have met you btw. Mickey :)

It's not so simple as that though, as compared to our system. To achieve MAXIMUM state pension. They have to be 67 if born after 1955 having paid the required number of yrs. That's way I read it anyway.
Looks as though there is a minimum age to claim. As in 62 at present 64 on the table.
Sure someone else can put it better.
