Because the club used to be live in itself and fully intended to replace the West Stand in time we used to have a ground to be proud of now it’s becoming a mess
Gary was a great defender from my early years watching us. That's why it's a shame interviews happen at half time when people are downstairs chatting about the first half, queuing ages at catering or going to the toilet.
It's unfortunate that this is a topic of conversation after such a good win but....the match day experience at Oakwell now is absolutely dreadful - a shambles. And although it is nonsense it does feel like their is a Committee that meets every Wednesday at 10am and asks itself "now, any more new ideas to pi$$ off the supporters?" The closure of the fence at the banking!! (just shaking my head). The next step will be to plant mines on all entrances so we have to navigate around them. It should be easier - it should be more welcoming than this.
I honestly think you should be put forward to run the day to day activities of the club, and be responsible for all decisions that are made. You seem to have the answer to everything
The stadium is inaccessible, draughty and uncomfortable. In short, it's no longer fit for purpose. But what are the chances of the current owners investing in a new one? It would probably require the development potential of the present site to be unlocked to fund a new one. But no doubt that would be resisted.
I wasn't there so missed that. There was one match a few weeks ago where one guy did very well at hitting the woodwork and even progressed from hitting the bar to also hitting the posts which is another "challenge" apparently. I don't want to mock those that have the courage to go on the field and have a go at this but I think it's had its day now and the club needs to come up with something else.
I agree. Many complain about the "soulless bowls" that are springing up but I'd rather go to a comfortable, compact football ground to watch my team play instead of one where even under cover you get wet when it rains (most of the ESL). Much is made of a lack of atmosphere at Oakwell these days and I would say that the huge gaps on the terraces have a lot to do with that. That concrete wasteland under the East Stand is thoroughly depressing as well and no amount of artwork will improve that for me, good though the illustrations are. I suppose if we are going for promotion next April the seats will fill up, for a few games at least, but that won't last. I really would like a smaller, more modern ground - say capacity 15,000 but with the capability to extend it if needed. I have no idea if this is financially viable but I suspect it will happen, possibly some time in the next ten years.
Yes that was better. At least there was some comedy value to that. A few seasons ago, on a rare away day for me, I saw a brilliant bit of comedy at half time. I think it was Scunthorpe. The "victim" had to place one hand on a post about four feet high and circle it rapidly, not taking the hand off, until told to stop. Then he had to move about half a dozen paces towards the goal and attempt to kick the ball into the net. Most of those that tried it were too dizzy and you got a slapstick swinging of the leg, completely missing the ball. Simple stuff, but very entertaining!
Pontefract road isnt gridlocked for the two hours during the game when emergency services are most likely to be required. Also which route into the stadium would have less impact on fans? Im not sure why pedestrains arent able to go through the gate but it does seem to be the logical route if we must have one. Also you are completly wrong on your last point about a move.
It was a big factor in mine. I struggle to walk in the cold, which is a big chunk of the football season. I literally have no useful feeling (just excessively painful feelings) in my toes in cold weather so it is really difficult to walk without falling over as it affects my balance. It’s fine on my way there as I get out of a warm car and keep moving but after sitting for nearly two hours they are numb and the walk back is terrible.
I believe the lad who most recently ‘was’ Toby, resigned because of abuse he’d received from certain fans online.
Personally I just think the whole hit the bar, then the posts to get all the prizes is setting the bar a little too high (no pun intended) like you say it rarely happens that they got the crossbar never mind the rest. Like someone mentioned above someone taking pens against Toby Tyke was more the adequate.
It's Saturday night and I'm hankering for some beevor. I saw this thread. Imagine my disappointment. I could end up in court.
I come in from Cudworth way and park at Hoyle Mill. I can’t get my head around why pedestrians can’t go in that way. To my knowledge, there is no other club in England who blocks off access to their ground in the name of safety . Is it some kind of dispute between the club and the council as it is nonsensical ? Take Hillsborough as an example - total traffic chaos around the whole ground every time we go there
