Our club love ruining tradition by changing things that don't need changing. Stop playing music during goal celebrations as well. FFS we aren't American.
Someone at the club has an agenda to get rid of timerider. This must be the 3rd or 4th time they've tried it, but it's clearly a tradition that fans want to keep.
The club has held numerous meetings with a variety of 'fan groups' over the last nine months or so, in an effort to collect opinion and ideas on what the fanbase would like to see in terms of boosting the atmosphere at Oakwell pre-match. I did attend one or two of said meetings, and put across my own personal opinion. I'm a well-known traditionalist in terms of things like this, and have always been against goal music, drums and the like. It's not my cup of tea at all. I cringed when the goal music played yesterday, three times, in quick succession. It's just not for me. But it's not me that it's aimed at. Perhaps it's the younger end? I dunno. Within all of these meetings held with various groups the sort of stuff I wasn't keen on personally were put forward a lot. And so the club have tried to implement some changes to both improve the atmosphere and please fans. It's impossible though, isn't it, to please a fanbase of thousands? What John in the West Stand upper tier likes isn't necessarily what Christine in the Ponty End enjoys. For the record, I think Cocoon is shocking. Again, had it been down to me (it isn't, I have no say) it'd be deleted from the world. Just personal taste I suppose. Unfortunately, any kind of big pre-match build-up piece will struggle to succeed until the club has a modern video screen and a better sound system in place. So there's probably an element of p****** into the wind here. In fairness (I don't have/use twitter) I've been sent screenshots today of fans blaming me or the media team for this. Or fans getting banned. Again (again) I have no input. My role changed a while ago. I do graphics these days. But if folk want a scapegoat I'm happy to be it. The atmosphere at home matches is woeful though. 3-0 up after 20 minutes and all you could hear were about 50 Accrington fans. Maybe it'll be different when the bigger clubs visit over the next month or two? I felt the 36th minute applause went down brilliantly and saw lots of love for Patrick and the Cryne family over the last 48 hours which was lovely to see too. Not going to deny there are genuine issues, things that are unhelpful when it comes to creating a positive atmosphere. But I don't believe there's a grand conspiracy afoot to p*** folk off either.
Complaints about no atmosphere at games yet a tune that gets some of the fans clapping gets criticised and effort made to drop it on a now regular basis. The goal scoring audio was shiite last time it was attempted yet somebody needs to see their idea in action to gain brownie points within the club.
Maybe so but the fact more than three quarters of the fans clap to fanfare followed by cocoon . These fans groups are a minority in comparison and forward their own prejudices imo . If seeing a large portion of the crowd clapping along doesn’t influence the decision makers and they discard fir a few influential prejudice voices thers not much more to be done imo.
It really was worse mate. I remember the clap clap song and thinking "What the hell is that' and then laughing at how bad it was. Yesterday I was thinking "What the hell is that' and then (genuinely) hoping the sound system broke to shut the noise off.
There was a time when they used to play Opening of Fanfare just as the payers were coming out of the tunnel then Timerider as they walked on . There was a roar when Fanfare started as the fans knew what was coming and then all clapping along to Timerider . They don’t co ordinate anymore and Fanfare is sometimes played five minutes before they enter and Timerider halfway through . Maybe if the club concentrated getting the timings right instead of pushing everybody off and playing what someone thought was a good idea at the time which bemused the crowd . Timerider works and I get that some don’t like it but look at the crowd reactions not meetings where majority of fans have no influence or say. Try getting the timing right and see how it used to be as a crowd pleaser .
Like YT says it’s just pissing in the wind at this point. The ground is far too big for us to generate any kind of atmosphere away from the small singing section at the top corner of the Ponty end. Couple that with league one football against teams like Accrington Stanley, and don’t mean to cause any offence to Accrington. The atmosphere should pick up somewhat during our March/ April run in when we face the promotion rivals. The Bolton game had potential for a decent atmosphere but that got put to bed when Anderson got sent off & they scored the penalty. Ultimately what we need in order to move forward in my opinion is an acceptance that League 1 is now our level, & a nice new stadium of about 15k capacity, with the option of extending. But as always, money.
Yeah I get all of that and concede the atmosphere in general has dropped considerably. My point is in the walk on music which whether we have three thousand or twenty three thousand generates a reaction . There’s plenty for the club to think about tweaking to create atmospheres etc without picking on something that in most cases works. However as I said the timing has almost killed it anyway so there’s more ways to sabotage it to say it’s not working I suppose . Imo
The thing is though whitey. At how many of those meetings did the groups call for the run out music to be changed? And at how many were other things that haven't been implemented suggested? It seems that it's always the same thing the club (or someone at the club) tries to meddle with and it always backfires massively. On a slightly related note. Chicken flatbreads were a success last year but they've been binned off this year. That seems completely counter intuitive to me
I always play it before Sunday lunch , everybody clapping before Yorkshire pudding comes in , creates a right atmosphere
I reckon we should start chucking 20k a week contracts at over the hill journeymen. That would please the majority of over 40s who want us to ‘spend a bit of money’ and would then clearly improve the atmosphere.
I wouldn't let males under the age of 40 in. it would soon cut out the rowdiness and the lunatics who want to stand up all the time. Quiet contemplation is required for those of us who want to study the finer points of the game.
