So long as we don't shell out for him, could be a good deal. You feel things are rigged against us financially so the reality is we have to dig deep and hope we strike something good.
That's about the length of time it takes to use the fax machine. I'm sure when we tried to sign Mcburnie someone from Oakwell thought they had to get the paperwork to Swansea by train. Changing at King's Cross and Paddington.
Hopefully we can sign both of them as I think the Shaw Brothers can bring some much needed action to our front line…
Considering the budget (or lack of) did you honestly think we'd be signing someone who's currently on double figures for the season? His record prior to this season has been fairly good. Had he got even 5 in the 17 games this season, he'd have championship teams looking at him, or Kilmarnock would want to keep him. We're literally skint.
The worry is that this deal seems to be taking so long to get done, it means that the other players they're looking at (Wellens? Hamer? White?) end up running out of time.
But for all anybody knew at the time, Smith might never have been available? Do we know Watters is still nowhere near fitness?
He’s had so few minutes since he signed it’s hard to imagine him to be match fit. Plus he’s low on confidence compared to Smith who’s netted a few recently.
You're making quite a few assumptions there mate. He might not be getting much match practice (some of that was out of our control with postponements), but that doesn't mean he's not match fit. He'll have been putting the hours in over the last few weeks in training. Confidence might not necessarily be an issue either. Fresh start at a new club.
The owners aren't skint and they would be losing far, far, far less money per month in the next division up. How long do people think that they will be happy to keep putting in nearly a £1m a month in L1? If I was a successful millionaire it'd be nothing more than common sense than to put in maybe an extra £1m or even £0.5m to get a couple of credible L1 players in and back my excellent manager. Backing Duff at odds of 8-1 or 16-1 is a no-brainer.
