It is a very poor article really, just slating the lad for some reason. He is a young lad who was ever present at the end of last season in a side that got into top 6 in Championship so he must have been doing something well at that stage. Had a manager change and new manager doesn't want to use him for whatever reason and this reporter decides to post that. I am sure he has some shortfalls to his game but he clearly has good attributes otherwise he would never have got picked last season. Most Hudds fans seem annoyed that he has been allowed to leave, especially on a permanent deal.
The 100 games comment in the press release is a bit misleading. Only half of those are first team appearances.
Very skilful, likes a trick a bit soft in the tackle for his size Be good for you When he came into town first team he looked a world beater response from a town fan who’s opinion is usually unbiased.
From what I've been told he looked very good last season but this season, for what ever reason. he didn't look interested when he played and was frozen out for some reason. If we can get him back to playing like he did last season we'll have signed a good player. I guess we'll see.
Btw I’m not suggesting it’s not a good signing, I was stating that the article makes him sound absolutely Dogger as a midfielder.
Asked my Hudds supporting mate, he says he was their best player last season when they got to the Championship but the 2 managers they've had this year have been garbage. Under the right manager he's an absolute steal. His only problem is his pace but his reading of the game is phenomenal.
Let's face it if he was in a flying Huddersfield side like last year there's not a cat in hells chance he would be here so the down side allows us to sign him as with all signings time will tell but a lad with loads of potential.
The local rag have focussed a lot on his failings but clearly have an agenda fully backing Fotheringham and Bromby. If you read the comments on the article where Bromby states he’d dropped below the required standards, the fans seem to think he has something, and a better coach would accommodate him. He’s clearly got weaknesses but I’d like to think in a midfield three rather than two, with Connell alongside/behind him and Phillips, (or possibly Kane), he might just turn out to be excellent. As someone else has mentioned there is more than a hint of deja vu from when we signed Jacob Mellis, but hopefully Duff is the right type of manager to get a shift out of that kind of player.
Sounds a lot like the vibe around Styles - brilliant in our play-off season, lost his way, moved to Millwall, seems to be on the up again. Let's hope we're Jon's Millwall!
Oh yeah, I agree. That was what I meant, but probably not how it came across. Wasn’t a criticism of the lad or the signing at all.
I asked a Huddersfield fan about him: "Depends who he’s partnered with in midfield. He’s great on the ball but just isn’t the most manoeuvrable lad. Needs a workhorse next to him to do all the pressing" And another dog botherer: "Can be brilliant or can be anonymous, mainly depends on who is along side him. Seems to have the ability to beat a man without moving. (Which is just as well cos he doesn't run much )"
You would hope that dropping down a division should hopefully mean that his shortcomings aren’t exploited in quite the same way and we do play in a way which provides quite a lot of defensive cover which is mainly the thing he was being criticised for.
