The bookies have us as 15/8 outsiders for this one. Understandably so considering Portsmouth's slight upturn in fortunes since John Mousinho took over. Back to back 2-0 victories in Mousinho's first two games were followed by a 2-1 defeat at Peterborough last weekend, where they registered just one shot on target. At Fratton Park, Pompey's victory over Exeter last time out was their first home win since 3rd September, and only their 4th of the season. That being said, in the 8 games between home wins, they drew 6 times, including against Ipswich, Plymouth and Derby. Portsmouth have gained 2 less points at home than we have away. Historically, we've found Fratton Park a difficult place to visit. We've tasted victory just once in the last 21 visits spanning nearly 40 years. In fact we've won just 5 of 27 meetings in Portsmouth. Our last win there came in 1999 courtesy of second half goals from Craig Hignett, Bruce Dyer and an own goal. This is going to be a tough game, but I'm not convinced Portsmouth are back to their best just yet. They were outplayed by Peterborough, and were quite fortunate against Exeter too in their last home game. I'm going for 1-2 with Phillips and Cole on the scoresheet
I'd love to say a draw, but I reckon they'll pip us. Had this new manager not turned up I'd be more confident
I'm afraid we'll lose. 2-0, one of the goals to be a penalty (not because of our recent history of conceding either). I hope I'm wrong.
Nightmare goalkeeper debut, 3-0 defeat, Khaled and the board getting it in the neck for selling Walton by those who have spent the last two years deriding Walton.
Sounds pretty plausible, definitely a scenario that has crossed my mind. Meanwhile in the Luton game Walton comes on as sub with ten minutes left at 1-0 down, saves a penalty, and then goes up for a corner in the 97th minute and powers in an equaliser. Cue the biggest meltdown on here since we loaned Styles to Millwall instead of selling him for £25 million / we didn't buy a recognised full international striker in the summer / we failed to beat Oxford 7-0 last night (delete as applicable)
1-0 to us. Early Reds winner and we manage to hang on/waste time despite ref adding on 2 days of extra time.
1-1 well hard point for the super reds who have to keep playing for the full 100 minutes, 10 minutes added by the homer ref for no reason COYR
Big big game for them.. they need to beat us really. Lose and they're 12points behind 6th spot.. if they win down to 6 and still to come to oakwell.. Tuff game.. 0-0
Not the best time to be playing Pompey and not a happy hunting ground either. I’d definitely take a point now if offered. Think we’ll probably need to score a couple to get one too.
Pompey desperate to get a win and get back on track, unfortunately we seem to have a knack of kick-starting someone’s season. Once again I’ll be delighted for my prediction to be wrong. 2-1 Pompey
3-0 to pompey. Tough place to go, and after Wednesday's lack lustre effort I feel we will not have recovered enough to come away with owt. It will be one hell of a long journey home for those travelling.
