Obviously money is more important than career development and improving his game. Very poor decision on his part, but maybe playing football is just not important to him.
Can’t believe the comments on here, grass not greener ,he been to World Cup with Wales ,he earnt more money than he would with a life time at Barnsley ,but he not played much, bet he devastated
Or maybe he was confident in his ability to push for the No.1 shirt at his new Club, but it just didn't pan out? Being a goalie is very different to any other position. Every Club has to have a No. 2 / 3. Since he's left Barnsley, he's been to a World Cup and is now with the team that looks likely to get promoted to the PL. I doubt he would say that's failure.
Good entries on his CV, yes. Chances to improve himself as a keeper (by playing often) - definitely not.
Going to world cup doesnt really mean anything. He more than likely would have gone had he stayed with us given the Welsh squad. He was 3rd choice. Good keeper. Solid enough. Hope he plays more in the future
He’s made 46 first team appearances, not 36. Plus whatever he’s got for Wales. He also established himself as first choice at Stoke second season, got a knee ligament injury and struggled to get back in initially, but then ended 20/21 first choice again. Didn’t play as much last season - Stoke had three keepers that all played a similar number of games - so took a punt on Sheff Utd with his old boss, and yes has been second fiddle to Foderingham. But he moved on to try and play. He’s likely to be second choice in the premier league next season, and earning at least triple what he’d have got here. Probably more. I’d say he’s been a tad unfortunate at times but I doubt he regrets leaving. Or that he ever did regret it.
Backed himself. He had no reason not to believe he was going to push to become Stoke's number 1 when he made that move. Had he moved to be Man City's fourth choice there might be an argument. But he didn't. You could slate Kieffer Moore for making a sideways move. But he's now a Premier League player. You could slate Sam Winnall for jumping at the cash. But... actually no buts. I'll end that one there.
tbh I would have been devastated, you are only young once and I would have been after a move before now even for less money
Also should consider himself unlucky, he left here with the intention of being number 1 at Stoke but the Butland transfer didn’t materialise as expected so found himself behind him in pecking order.
Winnall is the same as the others really. Backed himself to succeed but didn't. Loaned out then injury struck and his career went downhill after. Can understand why players take the move when the money is so vast. Davies had just had the best season of his career when he left us, took the move while his stock was at its highest.
He was unlucky because Butland was supposed to be getting sold the same window he joined, no doubt he would’ve had more opportunities if that happened.
I find posts like this strange. He went for more money. Maybe backing himself a bit. But definitely money, which of course any of us would do. It’s been a while since he left and posts like this just seem like the odd behaviour of a spurned ex lover.
Thanks Troff Adam Davies He’s made 46 first team appearances, not 36. Plus whatever he’s got for Wales. Adam Davies. 4 International Caps - Danny Ward 28 - Wayne Hennessey 100 +
