How on Earth did the club sustain a social club? there was was an owner who did naff all to the ground before Conway tha knows, let alone the “fan experience”
Definitely be freezing in the winter, but not sure it'll boil anyone in the summer. Maybe, if there's another 40 degree day like last summer. I don't think anyone has realised it doesn't have a roof (other than covering the bar and from where the food is served). It's an outdoor facility. The beams are for, well, I'm not sure. Fancy I guess. And to hold up the chandeliers. Which are open to the elements. And will last 20 minutes into a windy night, if they're lucky. It's a £2 million build on an outdoor space, which is, frankly, nuts.
Different times, all the pits were open more money swilling about. And note.. when times started to get harder and money tight the Social club closed never to re-open
When the social club was closed due to the building of the new South stand. (Ponty end) the opportunity was missed to include a new facility. I went in the social club from around 75-95. I'm not sure if it would be viable to create a permanent 7 day facility nowadays. Would people use it ?. (One of the suites maybe could be developed to include darts/pool to test the water) John Dennis and the board at the time obviously thought a new club was probably bottom of the list of priorities. ( a mistake in my view at the time) All the new owners that followed i assume think the same. hence the creation of the fan zone. By the supporters trust with input from the club. Sad state of affairs and due to my thoughts in todays world when it seems folk have less interest in going out during the weekdays. I've become one of the old guard, who think the priority is to get it right on the pitch and the punters will turn up.
Like I said, it's a poor rendering designed to show what's inside.. It's all covered. I've looked at the planning permission documents. The bits that look covered in the renderings are actually covered in a metal roof, the bits that look uncovered are covered in transparent sheets.
