    Never got this bitterness towards Dickie Bird. He's a Barnsley season ticket holder who's been to close to a thousand matches at Oakwell. He was invited to Brammall Lane where he'd probably umpired in his career and he was given a tie to put on in front of the cameras. A one off publicity stunt. For that he's had years of abuse despite bigging up the town at every opportunity.

    He was born and raised in Barnsley and is a well known Yorkshireman ( and Barnsley boy ) throughout the world .

    What has he done to merit such a title ?

    You will always get some people criticising folk from Barnsley like Dickie,Mr Parkinson, Darren Gough etc but i suppose it's par for the course.

In the board room, before the game, there was the usual pre-match banter including with Dickie who was wearing a United tie, which was mentioned in the interview, as part of the friendly, good natured spirit between him, Barnsley and the Blades that everyone was enjoying in the build-up to kick-off."
