It was my 8-year-old daughter's first game today and I was really surprised that she absolutely loved it. She's not really been at all interested in football to date but she desperately wants to come again after today. We checked out the fan zone, had a quick chat with Whitey, Tina and Dave Cooper. Had a look round the shop and bought her a Barnsley hoody, which she wanted rather than a shirt. Then headed for the kids club where we played pool, table tennis, a darts thing, many games of connect 4 (small and large). She loved it. I know it's had a bit of stick on here and yes there are areas for improvement but genuinely, she had a great time. I'm sure it might get a bit boring game after game but for her age (and interests) she thought it was great. Obviously, it was a good first game to bring her to and the atmosphere was the best it's been for a long time. She even got a photo with Jordan Williams after the POTM presentation. Oh and the emergency toys stayed in the bag for the whole time she was at the club She rated her trip to Oakwell a 10/10 and has been begging to come again so it's been a pretty successful day. A couple of photos or
No, no, no. It's only a couple of days since she was born. She simply cannot be eight already! Lovely photographs, Paul, old mate. Thank you for posting them.
Thanks for posting Gally, brought back fond memories of when I took my son to his first game at Oakwell (many many years ago). He loved it as well and still goes. Glad your daughter, and you, had a good time.
Brilliant stuff Gally! Had my 9 year old with me today and we were sat with Jordan's dad. The celebrations when he scored the 2nd goal were awesome!! My lad seems to enjoy it more each time he comes. Walking out after the game and he said to me "dad, I want to score a goal just like Jordan's when I play tomorrow morning"! He plays for Holmfirth Town Juniors! Looks like we will be going against Derby on the 25th!
I've posted a lot of negative 5h ite recently but I nearly went today. I love the initiatives and menus etc. The clubs getting it right.
I really enjoyed today. It's been so hectic at work for weeks and a lot went into this afternoon. But the way our fans really stood up and showed what we are about was so good. Made me proud. The highlight though was seeing you, @Gally and little Sophie pre-match coupled with these photos and your report afterwards. Because that is exactly what we are aiming for. She's a delight too. What a lovely, well-mannered little girl.
I went to Derby away in 2018. I was drinking pint for pint with Adam Armstrong's dad. He has £50 a game on Arna scoring first and hates Josh Scowen and Matty James for not getting ball forward quick enough. I'm waffling but the guy must be bankrupt. His son's a bag of w@nk in front of goal but that's love.
She's a little beauty her mate! So glad she enjoyed her experience with her dad. Hopefully many more years to come for you both to enjoy. Id love to be there though when we're rock bottom one day and she says 'dad, why on earth couldn't you have supported Man Utd or Chelsea'
Absolutely brilliant Paul. My 10 year old son is born and bred in Greater Manchester, all his mates at school are City or Stockport County, he told me this week he is 'Barnsley first, United second'. Awesome feeling. Even though it means I have to shell out for Old Trafford a few times a year. We're at Port Vale Tuesday. Much to his Mum's protestations.
He is in premier mate, but he had a cracking goal scoring record for Blackburn! I'm sure his son will lend him a bob or two if in need though
Cheers mate. Good to see you and thanks for the kind comments. Can't have gone better from my point of view. I expected her to be playing with her toys after 10mins and not be that interested in the whole thing so I'm truly made up
8?!? Doesn’t seem like 2 minutes since she was born. She looks like she had a whale of a time. Jordan even looks like he’s had an haircut for her. And her first season. We won the play-offs in Lucas’s first season, so keep fetching her!
