“We are Barnsley, we are Barnsley, super Barnsley, from Oakwell “. Rod Stewart heard it at a match and liked the tune so much he wrote “I am sailing” to match it.
I thought it was one of the most tuneful songs we sang.

Not sure when yellow/red cards were introduced but were players 'sent-off' for dangerous play in the good old days ?

Who was the first Barnsley player to be red-carded ?

Me and Mrs Tonjy have just been having a singsong in the golden lion, Whitby. One of the songs (and I don’t know the title) has the line “her eyes they shone like diamonds “ and it brought back memories of a chant that ended with “and there stood (somebody, can’t remember) up there with the cup in his hands “.
    Can anybody enlighten me?

Black Velvet Band by the Dubliners

Her eyes they shone like diamonds
I thought her the queen of the land
And her hair hung over her shoulder
Tied up with a black velvet band.

    Don't remember the Oakwell lyrics
