Finally Did It!

Finally ditched my vinyl albums yesterday, along with a huge collection of CD's and my JVC Micro hi-fi. I haven't had a means to play the vinyls for 20 years, and the system and CD's were gathering dust in our parlour. So they were relegated to the spare room a few years ago and yesterday I conveyed the whole lot to the Barnsley Hospice Shop in the hope they'll raise a few bob for their very good cause.

The turning point has been belatedly getting a smart speaker - in our case a Google Nest, which can play every track I've ever owned (and all the ones I haven't) on demand. (Thanks to those who chipped in on the discussion of the various streaming services recently - I went with Spotify in the end!)

At the risk of descending into old fogeydom, when Lady Kaht took me up the aisle (painful!) we possessed only a black and white portable telly which (tremble, young 'uns!) you actually had to get up off your arse to change channels! Now I have a 7" x 5" gadget which obeys my every command. Lady Kaht has spent 41 years trying to train me to do the same!

 

Got rid of my vinyl in the 80s with the advent of cd's. Not the biggest regret in my life...but it's up there.

My vinyl is sitting in boxes up the attic. Last october we were in Liverpool and went into a shop selling all sorts of stuff including vinyl LPs. So I had a shufty and found "Sounds Good for Nothing" which was a various artists compilation originally given away with Sounds newspaper, of which I have a copy up the attic. They were selling it for £10.... @orsenkaht they might make more than a bob or two.

I’m the same, I’ve got Spotify and a cheap record player but need something a better

 

I've got a turntable up the loft, I'll let you have it along with my vinyl for say £1000.

 

Grandaughter's got record player for Xmas they seem to be popular at the moment,

 

Both my sons have invested.in record players and are buying vinyl. They like the action of putting it on and lifting the needle arm up. Vinyl is making a huge comeback.

 

Seems a decent price ….how big is your loft?

Second hand vinyl is at a premium at the moment with most albums going for over £10, with the more popular ones fetching north of £50. If you want a new vinyl, they start at about £20. Hope the hospice know what they’ve got.

 

Decent size but not much head room I'm afraid, you'll be doing quite a bit of headbanging - albeit unintentional when you'd listening to your Mantovani... Edit, correction - Bruce Springsteen, not that I have any of his mind.
